Hard skills

State security registration or license
Contract companies cannot place you without it, so the state, class and expiration are the first thing a scheduler reads.
Access control and visitor systems
Corporate sites run on badges and visitor logs, and knowing the systems means you can take a post with minimal training.
Incident report writing
Reports end up with HR, insurers and courts, and officers whose reports hold up are the ones account managers trust with sensitive sites.
CCTV and alarm monitoring
Most posts include a monitoring station, and experience spotting and responding to events on camera is a practical differentiator.
De-escalation training
Clients want situations resolved without force or complaints, and documented training reassures them and the company's insurer.
Armed qualification and firearm permit
Armed posts pay more and need fewer candidates, so stating your permit and qualification dates opens those assignments.

Mistakes that cost security guard interviews

  1. Registration details missing

    State the license or registration, the class, the issuing board and whether it is current. Schedulers screen for it, and an omission means a phone call they may not make.

  2. Posts without description

    Security officer at a contract company tells the reader nothing. Name the type of site, the shift, the systems you monitored and the number of people or the size of the property you covered.

  3. No incidents, no results

    Quiet sites are the goal, but the resume still needs evidence. Use incidents documented, audits passed, entries prevented, merchandise recovered or a drop in a specific problem at your site.

  4. Overstating authority

    Do not describe arrests or enforcement you did not have the authority to perform. Use detained, reported or coordinated with police, and let the accuracy speak for your judgment.

  5. Skipping customer service

    Most of a shift is helping people find their way. Include the service side, because clients renew contracts with companies whose officers are pleasant as well as vigilant.

Should I list armed and unarmed experience separately?

Can I get a security guard job with no experience?
