Caregiver Resume Example

Home care agencies and assisted living communities hire caregivers they can trust alone with a vulnerable person. A caregiver resume earns the interview by showing reliability, the kind of care you give, and the training that proves you do it safely.

The Sample resume below belongs to a caregiver with six years in home care and assisted living, now a senior caregiver who handles clients with dementia and limited mobility. Each bullet describes a real part of the job: personal care, transfers, medication reminders, meals, charting and what families noticed. Concrete details such as client numbers, shift lengths and years with one family tell a hiring coordinator more than kind words do.

Match the posting's setting. An agency wants flexibility, driving and experience with several clients; a facility wants teamwork on a busy floor and clean documentation. The medical assistant example shows a next step into clinics, and the Chronological template keeps a steady work history front and center.

How the resume changes with experience

The same caregiver resume, written at three levels: a summary and three bullets for each.

Entry level

Zero to two years, or a first role in the title

Newly trained caregiver with a home health aide certificate and years of caring for a grandparent at home, looking for part- or full-time shifts with an agency.

  • Completed 75 hours of caregiver training, including supervised clinical hours in a care community.
  • Cared for a family member after a hip replacement, handling transfers, meals and appointments for six months.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and can work weekends and overnights.

Mid level

Three to seven years, owns a process or a workload

Caregiver with four years in home care, trusted with long-term clients and comfortable with dementia, mobility support and detailed care notes.

  • Support four regular clients each week with personal care, meals and errands.
  • Kept one client safely at home for three years by adapting routines as her mobility changed.
  • Complete visit notes in the agency app before leaving every home.

Senior

Eight years or more, leads people, budgets or programs

Lead caregiver and field supervisor with ten years in home and memory care, training caregivers and handling the agency's most complex cases.

  • Supervise 20 caregivers in the field, completing home visits and quality checks each month.
  • Build care plans with nurses and families for new clients and match each client with a caregiver.
  • Teach the agency's dementia and safe transfer classes for new hires.

Skills to put on the caregiver resume

Hard skills

Personal care
Bathing, dressing and toileting with dignity is the core of the job, and hiring coordinators want to see it named plainly.
Safe transfers and mobility support
Falls are the biggest risk for many clients, so knowing gait belts, lifts and safe technique is a key hiring question.
Dementia care
Many clients live with memory loss, and experience with routines and redirection makes you the first choice for those cases.
Care documentation
Agencies and facilities rely on accurate notes for nurses, families and inspections, so clean charting matters.
Medication reminders and vital signs
These routine checks catch problems early, and families want to know you will notice and report changes.

Soft skills

Reliability
A missed shift can leave someone alone and unsafe, so dependability is often the first thing a coordinator checks with references.
Patience and compassion
Clients can be frightened, confused or in pain, and a calm caregiver makes every task easier and safer.
Communication with families
Families trust caregivers who give clear, respectful updates, and that trust keeps long-term clients with the agency.

Mistakes that cost caregiver interviews

  1. Only writing cared for elderly clients

That line fits every caregiver. Say how many clients, what conditions, what tasks and in what setting, so a coordinator can match you to the right case.

  2. Leaving out certifications

CNA, home health aide, CPR and dementia training are often required. List each one with the year, and mention any that are in progress.

  3. Hiding long client relationships

Caring for one client for years shows trust and reliability. Mention it in your summary or bullets, because agencies value continuity highly.

  4. No availability or transportation

Home care depends on who can work which shifts and drive between homes. Add your availability and driver's license where a coordinator will see them.

  5. Private details about clients

Never use a client's name or anything that could identify them. Describe conditions and tasks in general terms instead.

Questions about the caregiver resume

What skills should I put on a caregiver resume?

Personal care, safe transfers, dementia care, meal preparation, medication reminders, documentation, CPR and first aid, plus reliability and patience. Choose the ones the posting mentions first.

How do I write a caregiver resume if I only cared for family?

Describe it like a job: who you cared for, for how long, and what you did each day. Add any training you completed and the hours you can work.

Is a CNA required to work as a caregiver?

Not always. Many home care agencies train caregivers themselves, while facilities and some states require a CNA or home health aide certificate. Check the posting and your state's rules.

Should a caregiver resume be one page?

Yes for most caregivers. Keep the most recent jobs, certifications and availability on one clear page.

How can I stand out as a caregiver applicant?

Show continuity with clients, experience with conditions the agency serves, and a specific moment where your attention prevented a problem.

Every application goes out fitting the job.
