Pharmacist CV Example (Ireland)

A Pharmacist CV in Ireland is read by a pharmacy owner, a superintendent pharmacist or a group's area manager who needs to know within a minute whether you are on the PSI register, whether you can act as supervising pharmacist for the premises, and what you have done with a dispensary beyond dispensing. The Pharmacy Act 2007 puts a named pharmacist's registration on the line for every opening hour, so registration status and the roles you have held under it come before anything else.

The Sample CV below is for a community pharmacist in Sligo with six years post-registration, three of them as supervising pharmacist of a busy main street pharmacy that runs vaccination clinics, a methadone programme and a nursing home contract. Its bullets give the script volume, the services launched, the GMS and DPS claims kept clean, and the PSI inspection passed with no conditions, because those are what an owner is paying a supervising pharmacist for.

Tailor it to the pharmacy. An independent wants someone who can run the place when the owner is away; a group wants services, compliance and margin; a hospital wants aseptic or clinical ward experience and the pharmacy's own competency framework. The US counterpart of this page is the pharmacist resume example, written for American chains with state licensure and insurance adjudication; Irish practice runs on PSI registration, the PCRS schemes and the HPRA. The Civic template keeps the CV plain for HSE hospital portals, and the Professional template suits a community application.

Updated . The person and employers in this Sample CV are fictional. Written for applicants in Ireland; the page for applicants in the US is the pharmacist resume example.

How an Irish CV differs

An Irish Pharmacist CV is built around the PSI register and the roles the Pharmacy Act 2007 defines: pharmacist, supervising pharmacist and superintendent pharmacist. Every pharmacy must have a named supervising pharmacist with at least three years post-registration experience, so the number of years since registration is a qualifying fact, not a detail. Community income runs through the PCRS schemes, medicines are regulated by the HPRA, and the Irish Institute of Pharmacy runs the continuing professional development system the PSI audits. Hospital pharmacy posts in HSE and voluntary hospitals use the HSE application form and interview against competencies.

For a pharmacist in Ireland

  1. Registration, years and roles held

Write MPSI, the year you registered and whether you have acted as supervising or superintendent pharmacist, with the premises and the dates. Three years post-registration is the legal threshold for the supervising role, and owners count.

  2. Volume and services, not duties

Items dispensed per week, the services run, the contracts held and the claims rate tell an owner what the dispensary was like. Dispensed prescriptions accurately tells them nothing.

  3. PCRS and HPRA by name

GMS, DPS, LTI and the month-end claims are the business; the controlled drugs register and the HPRA are the regulation. Name them so the reader knows you have done the Irish job, not a UK or American version.

  4. CPD on the PSI's terms

The PSI can call a pharmacist's CPD portfolio for review. List your vaccination training, any IIOP courses and the year, and say your portfolio is up to date.

  5. Hospital posts use the HSE form

A hospital pharmacist application is scored on competencies such as clinical knowledge, teamwork and quality improvement. Give the CV a bullet for each so the examples on the form have something to point to.

Every CV in Ireland

A4 paper
The page is A4. Irish employers print and file on A4, and a Letter-sized PDF is the first sign a CV was written for the US.
Two pages is normal
Two pages is the norm for an Irish CV. Graduates fit one; nobody needs three unless the role is senior.
No photo
No photo, date of birth or marital status. Irish employers do not ask for them, and leaving them off keeps the page about the work.
Dates as DD/MM/YYYY
Day, month, year where a full date appears; month and year for each role. The US month-first order confuses the reader.
Irish English
Irish English follows British spelling: organise, programme, centre, licence, specialise.
Town or Dublin postal district, not a street address
"Dublin 8" or "Cork" is enough on the contact line. A full address is not expected, and the US-style "City, ST 12345" line never is.

How the CV changes with experience

The same pharmacist CV, written at three levels: a profile and three bullets for each.

Entry level

Zero to two years, or a first post in the title

Newly registered pharmacist, MPSI since July, with the final-year placement in a high-volume community pharmacy and a vaccination certificate completed before registration, looking for a first support pharmacist post.

  • Completed the integrated programme placement in a pharmacy dispensing 1,800 items a week, including the nursing home run and the methadone clinic.
  • Passed the PSI registration examination at the first sitting and completed vaccinator training the same month.
  • Worked as a pharmacy technician for two summers during the degree, so the dispensary system and the PCRS month-end are familiar.

Mid level

Three to seven years, owns a process or a workload

Support pharmacist with four years in a group of six pharmacies, vaccinator and methadone-trained, covering supervising pharmacist duties across the group and leading its new blood pressure and health check service.

  • Act as supervising pharmacist for up to three branches on a rota when the named pharmacist is absent.
  • Launched a blood pressure check service that referred more than a hundred patients to their GP in its first year.
  • Train the group's new technicians on dispensing, the controlled drugs register and the PCRS claim checks.

Senior

Eight years or more, leads people, budgets or programmes

Superintendent pharmacist for a group of nine pharmacies, accountable to the PSI for the group's standards, SOPs, inspections and the training of its pharmacists and technicians.

  • Named superintendent pharmacist for nine premises, with every inspection in the last three years closed without conditions.
  • Wrote the group's SOP manual and the audit calendar that each supervising pharmacist works to.
  • Recruited and inducted eleven pharmacists and oversaw the group's move to a single dispensary system.

Skills to put on the pharmacist CV

Hard skills

PSI registration and supervising pharmacist experience
An owner cannot open the door without a registered pharmacist on the premises, and one who has carried the supervising role already needs no settling-in period.
PCRS claims
GMS, DPS and LTI claims are most of a community pharmacy's income, and a pharmacist who keeps rejections low is worth real money to the business.
Vaccination
Flu, Covid-19 and shingles clinics are now expected of most pharmacies, and a trained vaccinator can start clinics in the first week of winter.
Controlled drugs and HPRA compliance
The register, the balances and the destruction records are the first things a PSI inspector asks for, and an error there is the pharmacist's to answer.
Nursing home and monitored dosage systems
Residential contracts are steady volume with strict processes, and experience with MDS and medicines reconciliation visits is a selling point to an owner chasing one.
Methadone and supervised consumption
Many pharmacies hold a methadone contract and need a pharmacist trained for it; naming the training and the patient numbers removes a question from the interview.
SOPs and inspection readiness
A clean PSI inspection protects the owner's registration and the business, and a pharmacist who has prepared one shows they understand the regulatory side of the job.

Soft skills

Clear counselling
Patients remember the pharmacist who explained an inhaler properly, and repeat business in a small town depends on it.
Judgment under pressure
Queries from GPs, a queue at the counter and a prescription that looks wrong arrive together, and an owner wants someone who stays accurate.
Leading a small team
Technicians and counter staff take their standards from the supervising pharmacist, and the interview will ask how you handle a dispensing error by a colleague.

Mistakes that cost pharmacist interviews

  1. Registration year missing

An owner looking for a supervising pharmacist needs to see three years post-registration at a glance. Put MPSI and the year in the headline and the registration section, and the roles you have held under it.

  2. A list of dispensary tasks

Checked prescriptions, counselled patients and managed stock describe every pharmacist on the register. Give the weekly volume, the services you launched, the contract you won and the inspection you passed.

  3. Nothing about the money

A community pharmacy is a business, and PCRS claims, margin on services and stock control are part of the pharmacist's job. One bullet on claims or stock shows you understand what pays the wages.

  4. American or British framing

State licensure, insurance adjudication and GPhC registration belong to other countries. Irish practice is PSI, HPRA, PCRS and the HSE vaccination programmes, and a CV that uses those words reads as written here.

  5. Leaving out the vaccination and methadone training

Both are expected in most community posts now and both need specific training. If you have them, they belong on the first page; if you do not, say you are willing to train rather than leaving the owner to wonder.

Write bullets with the XYZ formula: what changed, the number that shows it, and how you did it, in one line.

Questions about the pharmacist CV

How many years post-registration do I need to be a supervising pharmacist?

Three years of post-registration experience is the requirement under the Pharmacy Act 2007 for a supervising pharmacist and a superintendent pharmacist. Write the year you registered with the PSI and the dates of any supervising role so an owner can confirm it without asking.

How long should a Pharmacist CV be in Ireland?

Two sides of A4. A newly registered pharmacist may fit on one; a superintendent with several premises, services and inspections may use a third page, but the current role and its results belong on the first.

I registered abroad. What should the CV say?

State your PSI registration status first: registered, recognition of qualification in progress, or the date you expect it. Name the country of your degree and registration, any adaptation period completed in Ireland, and your English language certificate if the PSI required one. Owners hiring internationally need all of it on the first page.

Should a community pharmacist list CPD?

Yes, briefly. Vaccination training, the anaphylaxis update, any IIOP accredited courses and a line saying your CPD portfolio is current are enough. The PSI audits portfolios, so an owner wants to know yours is in order.

What does an Irish hospital pharmacy want to see from a community pharmacist?

Lead with clinical work: medicines reconciliation, interaction queries resolved with GPs, nursing home medication reviews and any aseptic or ward experience from placements. Hospital posts are scored on the HSE competencies, so give an example of quality improvement and of working with a multidisciplinary team.

How do I tailor my CV to an independent pharmacy versus a group?

An independent wants to see that you can run the pharmacy in the owner's absence, so put supervising experience and the inspection first. A group wants services, compliance and claims, so lead with vaccination numbers and the rejection rate. Paste the advert into Resume Master and it rewrites the CV around that pharmacy's priorities in a couple of minutes.
