Pharmacist CV Example (Australia)

Pharmacy owners and hospital pharmacy managers in Australia read a Pharmacist CV for general registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia, the setting you practise in, and the services you can deliver on your own. Put your AHPRA registration and any vaccination or credentialing qualification near the top, then show dispensing volume, clinical services and how you look after patients and the team.

The Sample CV below is for a pharmacist with seven years across community and hospital practice in Adelaide. Her bullets cover dispensing under the PBS, a busy vaccination clinic, dose administration aids for aged care homes, medication reviews, and ward work on a medical unit with medication reconciliation and discharge counselling.

Tailor it to the setting. A community pharmacy wants professional services, retail awareness and the confidence to be pharmacist in charge; a hospital wants clinical ward work, medication safety and teaching; an aged care or consultant role wants accreditation for medication reviews. The US counterpart of this page is the pharmacist resume example, written for American retail chains and health systems; the Civic template suits a plain, well-ordered clinical CV.

Updated . The person and employers in this Sample CV are fictional. Written for applicants in Australia; the page for applicants in the US is the pharmacist resume example.

How an Australian CV differs

A pharmacist's CV in Australia rests on general registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia through AHPRA, gained after a supervised intern year and the Board's exams. The setting shapes the rest: community pharmacies are mostly owner-operated and want professional services and leadership on the floor, while public hospitals recruit through state health portals with selection criteria. The PBS, dose administration aids and pharmacist vaccination are local features that a reader expects to see named. Two pages of A4 is usual, with referees at the end.

For a pharmacist in Australia

  1. Registration type and year

Write general registration, the year and no conditions, and give the number on request. If you are an intern, say provisional registration and the month you expect to sit the oral exam.

  2. Setting and volume

For each job, say whether it was community, hospital, aged care or consultant practice, and give a sense of scale such as daily scripts, ward beds or homes supplied.

  3. Professional services named

List the services you deliver, such as vaccinations, medication reviews, dose administration aids, opioid treatment dosing or health checks. Owners compare these directly with what their pharmacy offers.

  4. Hospital roles and selection criteria

Public hospital pharmacy jobs ask for a statement against selection criteria. Write bullets with the clinical situation and the outcome so they can be reused in those answers.

  5. Pharmacist in charge and leadership

Being the pharmacist in charge, precepting interns and supervising technicians are signs you can run a shift. Put them in the job entry, not only in skills.

Every CV in Australia

A4 paper
Australia prints on A4. A Letter-sized PDF prints short on A4 and tells a recruiter the CV came from a US template.
Two to three pages
Australian CVs run longer than UK ones: two pages is normal and three is accepted for experienced applicants. One page suits a first job.
No photo
No photo, date of birth or marital status. Australian employers do not expect them, and anti-discrimination law makes most prefer not to see them.
Dates as DD/MM/YYYY
Day first where a full date appears, month and year for each role. The US month-first order reads wrong to an Australian recruiter.
Australian English
Australian English follows British spelling: organise, programme, centre, licence, specialise.
Suburb and state, not a street address
"Parramatta, NSW" is enough on the contact line. A full address is not expected, and the US-style ZIP line never is.

How the CV changes with experience

The same pharmacist CV, written at three levels: a profile and three bullets for each.

Entry level

Zero to two years, or a first post in the title

Newly registered pharmacist who has just completed an intern year in a community pharmacy, with confident dispensing, counselling and early vaccination experience.

  • Dispensed under supervision throughout the intern year and passed the written and oral exams for general registration.
  • Ran the pharmacy's blood pressure checks and smoking cessation consultations two days a week.
  • Completed hospital placements in general medicine and oncology during the degree.

Mid level

Three to seven years, owns a process or a workload

Hospital pharmacist with five years in a tertiary hospital, specialising in cardiology and working towards advanced practice recognition.

  • Provide the clinical pharmacy service to the cardiology unit and coronary care, including heart failure titration and anticoagulation review.
  • Lead the hospital's medication safety audit for high-risk medicines each quarter.
  • Teach medical and nursing students on safe prescribing and administration.

Senior

Eight years or more, leads people, budgets or programmes

Pharmacy manager with fifteen years in practice, running a group of three community pharmacies and their professional services program.

  • Manage pharmacists, interns and technicians across three sites, including rosters, performance and training.
  • Built the group's professional services, including vaccination, medication reviews and sleep apnoea screening.
  • Oversee compliance with pharmacy regulations, controlled drug registers and the quality care accreditation program.

Skills to put on the pharmacist CV

Hard skills

Clinical checking
Every script you check is a safety decision, and an employer wants to see the volume you handle and how you catch problems.
PBS knowledge
Authorities, safety net rules and repeats affect what the patient pays, and getting them right avoids rejected claims.
Vaccination
Pharmacist-administered vaccines are a large part of community practice, and owners hire pharmacists who can run a clinic.
Dose administration aids
Many pharmacies supply aged care homes and patients at home, and accuracy here is one of the most visible safety checks.
Medication reconciliation
Hospitals depend on pharmacists to get the medication history right on admission and discharge.
Controlled drug handling
S8 registers and state monitoring systems are checked at every inspection, and a careful record matters to the owner and the regulator.

Soft skills

Clear counselling
Patients remember a pharmacist who explains a new medicine simply, and it improves how well they take it.
Calm under pressure
A busy dispensary at five o'clock, with a queue and phones ringing, needs someone who keeps checking carefully.
Teaching
Interns, technicians and students learn on the job, and a pharmacist who teaches well strengthens the whole team.

Mistakes that cost pharmacist interviews

  1. Registration hidden

An employer checks the register before calling. Put general registration in the headline and the certifications section, with the year.

  2. No sense of volume or setting

Dispensed medicines describes every pharmacist. Give scripts a day, the homes you supply or the wards you cover, so the reader can compare.

  3. Leaving out vaccination

If you are trained to vaccinate, it is one of the first things a community owner looks for. List the training, the year and the vaccines you give.

  4. Patient details in examples

Never include anything that could identify a patient, even in a cover letter story. Describe the clinical problem and what you did.

  5. Using US pharmacy terms

A CV that talks about a state licence, technicians verifying fills and US spelling reads as written for another country. Use AHPRA, the PBS and Australian terms.

Write bullets with the XYZ formula: what changed, the number that shows it, and how you did it, in one line.

Questions about the pharmacist CV

What should a pharmacist CV include in Australia?

Your general registration, each setting you have worked in with a sense of volume, the professional services you deliver, vaccination training, intern precepting and leadership, continuing professional development, and two referees.

How do I write a pharmacist CV for my first job after the intern year?

Lead with the intern year, the pharmacy and the services you delivered, then your hospital placements and any extra training. Say when you passed the oral exam and gained general registration.

Should I list continuing professional development on my CV?

A short list of recent, relevant learning is useful, especially for vaccination, medication reviews or a specialty. You do not need every CPD activity, just the ones that support the job.

How do I move from community to hospital pharmacy?

Emphasise clinical work such as medication reviews, counselling on complex regimens and work with GPs and aged care nurses. Address the hospital's selection criteria directly and consider a part-time or casual ward role to start.

How long should a pharmacist CV be?

Two pages of A4 for most pharmacists. A senior hospital pharmacist with research or teaching may need three, but keep registration and the current role on the first page.

Can I tailor my CV to a community or hospital role quickly?

Keep one full CV, then reorder the bullets to lead with clinical work or professional services. Resume Master rewrites the CV against each advert in a couple of minutes.

Every application goes out fitting the vacancy.
