Mechanical Engineering Student (BS, Dec 2027) | 8-Month Powertrain Co-op | SolidWorks, ANSYS, GD&T | Formula SAE Subteam Lead
Dearborn, MIlayla.haddad@example.com(313) 555-0137Summary
Fourth-year mechanical engineering student at Huron Valley Polytechnic University (BS expected December 2027 after a co-op term) seeking a summer 2027 design or test engineering internship. Completed an eight-month co-op at an automotive powertrain supplier, releasing six production drawings and running durability tests on a transmission housing. Leads the four-person powertrain subteam on a Formula SAE car and is trained on manual and CNC machining. Planning to sit for the FE Mechanical exam in fall 2027.
Experience
Engineering Co-op, Product Design and Validation, Huron Shore Powertrain Systems
–
Detroit, MI
- Modeled and released six production drawings for transmission housing brackets and covers in SolidWorks with GD&T callouts, each checked and signed off by a senior design engineer.
- Ran a 500-hour thermal cycling and vibration durability test on a cast aluminum housing, writing the test plan, logging data in LabVIEW and delivering the report that supported design release.
- Redesigned a bracket's rib pattern after an ANSYS static analysis showed a stress concentration at a fillet; the change reduced peak stress by about a quarter at the same mass.
- Dispositioned 40 supplier nonconformance reports with the quality engineer, measuring parts on a CMM and height gauge and recommending accept, rework or reject.
Powertrain Subteam Lead, Huron Valley Polytechnic University Formula SAE Team
– Present
Dearborn, MI
- Lead four students designing the intake, exhaust and cooling package for a single-cylinder race car competing against about 100 university teams.
- Designed and 3D-printed a new intake plenum in nylon, then tuned it on the team's engine dynamometer for a measured gain of 4 horsepower at peak.
- Wrote the subteam's design report section and presented it to industry judges, scoring in the top third of entries for design.
- Manage a $6,000 subteam budget and two sponsor relationships for machining and materials.
Student Machine Shop Assistant, Huron Valley Polytechnic University Student Machine Shop
–
Dearborn, MI
- Supervised open shop hours for up to 12 students at a time, checking safety training cards and signing off on setups on manual mills, lathes and the waterjet.
- Machined fixtures and prototype parts for senior design teams on a three-axis CNC mill, programming in Fusion 360 CAM.
