Internship Resume Example

An internship resume answers one question: if we give this student a real project for ten weeks, will they deliver it? Employers expect little work experience, so they look instead for signs of skill and follow-through: class projects with a finished product, part-time jobs held for a long time, clubs where you took responsibility, and tools you already know.

The Sample resume below is for a sophomore computer science student applying for software engineering internships. Projects take the place of jobs, and each is described like work: what it does, how it was built and who uses it. A campus job and a hackathon round out the page with reliability and teamwork.

Tailor each application to the internship's team and tools. Engineering internships look for languages and projects; marketing internships for writing and social media; finance internships for Excel and coursework. Mistakes that cost first interviews

  1. Writing no experience

    Projects, campus jobs and clubs are experience. Describe them with actions and results, just like jobs.

  2. Projects without users or outcomes

    If anyone used your project, say how many. If not, describe what it does and what you learned building it.

  3. Listing skills you cannot discuss

    Interviewers ask about everything on the page. Keep skills you could explain with an example.

  4. One resume for every internship

    Move the most relevant project to the top and adjust your summary for each application.

  5. Forgetting links

    For technical or creative internships, add a GitHub or portfolio link so reviewers can see your work.
