Bar managers hire on fit before anything else: whether you have worked a bar like theirs, at their pace. A cocktail program, a stadium concession, a hotel lobby bar and a neighborhood tavern all want different bartenders, so this template opens with a summary that names the kind of bars you know and puts experience directly after it. Each job heading carries the venue type and size, and the bullet slots ask for the measures a manager tracks: guests per night, bar sales, pour cost, menu work and who you trained.

A Permits and Certifications section follows experience. Many states and cities require a responsible alcohol service permit or a food handler card before you can pour, so managers check for them; a separate heading lets them find both without reading the skills. Skills group drinks, operations and service, and education is one line at the end.

Write over each bracket with your own detail and delete what does not fit your work. Barbacks and servers moving behind the bar can use the same layout. For a bartender's completed version, read the bartender resume example.

How to fill in each section

  1. Summary: bar type, volume, specialty

The reader should know within one sentence which kind of bar you are used to. Name it plainly: *high-volume sports bar*, *hotel lobby bar*, *craft cocktail program*. Add your busiest night in guests. The second sentence is your specialty, which is what a manager is hiring around: speed, technique, wine, or building a regular crowd. End with the bar you want next. If you apply to different kinds of bars, keep one summary for each kind.

  2. Experience: venue, volume, margin

Put the venue type and seat count in the job heading so the scale is set before any bullet. Volume comes first in the bullets, then something you did for the bar's margin: inventory, pour checks, a menu that sold, steering guests to a better pour. Prefer counts a former manager could confirm over adjectives. Responsible service belongs here as a record, such as ID checks and calm refusals, because it protects the license the whole bar depends on.

  3. Permits and Certifications: easy to find

These are often the first thing a manager confirms after deciding they like you, and some venues cannot schedule you without them. A separate heading after experience keeps them out of the skills list, where they get lost. Name the permit the way your state or city does, with the expiry year. Spirits and wine credentials go here too; they matter most at cocktail bars, wine bars and hotel programs. If your permit has lapsed, renew it before you apply.

  4. Skills: drinks, operations, service

Group skills by what a manager would test. Drinks covers what you can make and talk about, and the best way to fill it is to read the menu of the bar you want and list the categories you know. Operations shows you can open, close and count without supervision; naming the POS you have used saves a training shift. Service is about volume and guests. Skip drinks every bartender makes and list what is particular to you.

  5. Education: one line, optional

Bar managers rarely hire on schooling, so a single line is enough: highest diploma or degree, school and year. A bartending school course can go here, but your permit and real shifts count for more. Students working bar shifts can list their current program and expected year, which also explains tighter availability around exams.

Questions about the bartender resume template

Should my alcohol server permit go near the top?

Not usually. Managers decide on your experience first, then check the permit. Its own heading right after experience means it is found in seconds without taking space from your venues. Move it up only if the posting says a permit is required to apply, which some hotels and stadiums do.

How do I show a craft cocktail bar I can do more than well drinks?

Name the techniques and categories you work with in skills, and give one experience bullet to menu work: drinks you created, specs you wrote, batching you set up for service. A link to a menu you built, if it is still online, can go in the header.

How do I move from server or barback to bartender?

Open the summary with the bar knowledge you already have: drinks you made on slow shifts, the service bar you supported, the wine or beer you sold on the floor. Put your permit in its section, and use bullets about speed, cash and regulars from your current job. If your manager gives you a trial shift behind the bar, mention it.

Should I list tips or sales numbers?

Sales per shift or per night are useful because they show volume and selling. Tips are personal income; leave them off. If you do not know the sales figure, use guests per night or the number of bartenders on the well, which gives the same sense of pace.

Is it free?

Yes. The Word files and the Google Docs copy are free to download, edit and use for any application. There is no signup and no email.

Will it read correctly in an applicant tracking system?

The layout is one column with standard headings and real text: no tables, text boxes, icons, columns or images, which are the parts parsers most often misread. Keep it that way as you edit.

Word or Google Docs?

Use whichever you edit in. The Word file opens in Microsoft Word, Pages and LibreOffice. The Google Docs link asks you to make a copy in your own Drive; the original stays blank for the next person. Send the posting the format it asks for, usually .docx or PDF.
