A store manager hiring a cashier is usually filling holes in a schedule. Before deciding who to call, they want to know when you can work, whether you can be trusted with a drawer, and whether customers leave your line in a good mood. This template answers the first question in a short Availability section under the summary: days, shifts, holiday weeks and how soon you can start. Most cashier resumes leave that to a cover letter that never gets read.

The experience slots then ask for numbers a register produces: customers per shift, drawer accuracy, payment types, returns handled without a manager, sign-ups for the store card or loyalty program. Skills come next with the register systems you know, and education is a line or two at the end.

Each prompt sits in brackets. Type over it with your own facts and remove lines you have nothing true for. If you have never had a paid job, school, volunteer and family work go in the experience slots. The cashier resume example shows a finished version from a grocery cashier.

How to fill in each section

  1. Summary: experience, one proof, availability

Keep it to three short sentences. The first gives the type of store and a number from a busy shift, so the manager can picture you at the register. The second is the one thing you are known for, as a fact rather than *hardworking*. The third repeats your availability briefly, because some managers read only this paragraph before calling. Change the store type for each application; a pharmacy and a supermarket feel different to work in.

  2. Availability: the block managers schedule from

Write exactly when you can work, without hedging. *Open availability* is fine if it is true; otherwise give days and hours. Holiday and back-to-school availability earns its own line because those are the weeks stores hire for. Transportation answers an unspoken question about whether you will make an early opening. If your schedule changes with school terms, write *through May* and update it later, so nobody books you for shifts you cannot work.

  3. Experience: customers, drawer, programs

A register records almost everything you do, so use those records. Customers per shift or per hour, how long your drawer has balanced, and how many loyalty sign-ups you got are numbers a manager could check with your last store. Name the payment types you handle, including food assistance benefits if you have, since some stores need cashiers trained on them. Training new hires or covering the service desk is the bullet that later gets you considered for head cashier.

  4. Skills: what you can do on day one

List things a trainer would otherwise have to teach you. Name the register systems you have used if you know their names. Age-restricted sales, lottery and returns all need training in most stores, so having done them saves a shift. A language line is valuable in many neighborhoods; include it only if you can help a customer from start to finish in that language. Leave personality traits to the summary and experience.

  5. Education: one or two lines

Give your high school, GED or current school with the year. Students should add *expected* and their graduation year, which helps a manager understand your hours. A food handler card belongs on the second line when you apply to a grocery store, deli or restaurant. Clubs and awards are optional; keep them for a first job, when the page would otherwise be thin.

Questions about the cashier resume template

Why does this cashier template have an Availability section?

Scheduling is most of a front-end manager's job, so when you can work decides who gets an interview as much as experience does. A clear Availability block answers that without a phone call. If your availability is narrow, it is still better to state it than to be hired for shifts you cannot cover.

Is cashier experience enough for a head cashier or front-end supervisor job?

It can be, if your bullets show the extra work: training new hires, covering the service desk, counting deposits, handling escalated returns. Move those bullets to the top of your current job and say in the summary that you are ready to lead a shift.

What if my only experience is a family business or volunteering?

Use it. Treat the business or event as the employer, give your role and dates, and describe the money you handled and the people you served. Managers hiring first-time cashiers look for exactly that: honesty with cash and staying calm with the public.

Should I mention self-checkout experience?

Yes. Watching a bank of self-checkouts means helping several customers at once, clearing errors, checking ages and spotting missed scans. Many stores staff that area with their more experienced cashiers, so a bullet about it shows you can work the whole front end.

Is it free?

Yes. The Word files and the Google Docs copy are free to download, edit and use for any application. There is no signup and no email.

Will it read correctly in an applicant tracking system?

The layout is one column with standard headings and real text: no tables, text boxes, icons, columns or images, which are the parts parsers most often misread. Keep it that way as you edit.

Word or Google Docs?

Use whichever you edit in. The Word file opens in Microsoft Word, Pages and LibreOffice. The Google Docs link asks you to make a copy in your own Drive; the original stays blank for the next person. Send the posting the format it asks for, usually .docx or PDF.
