A store manager filling the schedule reads every application with one question in mind: can this person work the shifts I need? That is why this template puts a short Availability section right after the summary, before experience. Days, hours, holiday and weekend flexibility, and your start date answer it in two lines, and they keep your application in the pile when the manager is covering Saturdays in December.

Experience follows, with prompts for what stores count: personal sales against goal, sales per hour, units per transaction, average sale, loyalty or credit sign-ups, and cash accuracy. Not every store shares those with associates, so the guide gives alternatives you can verify, such as being trusted to open and close. Skills come next and lead with the products you know, since product knowledge is what lets you sell without pushing.

If you are applying for your first store job, fill the experience slots with school, volunteer or family-business work. The sales associate resume example shows the same layout with a candidate's details.

How to fill in each section

  1. Summary: store type, products, the floor jobs you cover

Two or three short sentences. Say what kind of store you have worked in and what you sell, because a manager at a shoe store wants someone who can fit shoes. Mention one result you are proud of, then the parts of the store you can cover, from register to stockroom. Finish with the hours you want, part-time or full-time.

  2. Availability: the shifts you can actually work

Write days and times plainly. Managers build schedules weeks ahead and look for weekend and evening cover, plus help during holidays and back-to-school. Be honest; promising availability you cannot keep ends jobs quickly. If your schedule changes with a school term, give the current term and say when it changes. Put your earliest start date on the second line.

  3. Experience: what the store counts

Use the store's own figures if you know them: percent of personal goal, sales per hour, units per transaction, average sale, sign-ups. If your store did not share them, use a result you can stand behind, such as being chosen to train new associates or to hold keys. One bullet on visual merchandising or stock shows you help keep the floor ready, which managers value as much as selling.

  4. Skills: products first, then store systems

Start with the products you can talk about with confidence, using the names customers use. Then the store work you can do without supervision: register, cash counts, returns, inventory, displays. A second language belongs here if you help customers in it. Leave off generic lines such as *team player*; your experience shows that.

  5. Education: diploma or current school

List your high school or current school and the year you finished or expect to. College students working part time should include their program and expected graduation; managers schedule around class times more easily when they know them.

Questions about the sales associate resume template

Should I put my availability on a retail resume?

Yes, for hourly store roles. It is the first practical question a manager has, and answering it on the page saves a phone call. Leave it off when applying for a salaried management job.

What if my store never shared my sales figures?

Ask your manager what you can say, or describe trust and responsibility instead: opening and closing, training others, handling cash without discrepancies, being placed in a high-value department. Customer compliments named in reviews also count.

Can I use this template with no retail experience?

Yes. Use the second experience slot for babysitting, volunteering, school events or a family business, and count the people you served or the money you handled. A manager hiring a first-time associate cares most about reliability and willingness to learn, so make Availability complete and accurate.

Should a keyholder or senior associate change anything?

Add the keyholder title to the headline and the first experience heading, and give one bullet to opening, closing, cash and alarm duties. If you are applying for assistant manager, move scheduling and training bullets to the top.

Is it free?

Yes. The Word files and the Google Docs copy are free to download, edit and use for any application. There is no signup and no email.

Will it read correctly in an applicant tracking system?

The layout is one column with standard headings and real text: no tables, text boxes, icons, columns or images, which are the parts parsers most often misread. Keep it that way as you edit.

Word or Google Docs?

Use whichever you edit in. The Word file opens in Microsoft Word, Pages and LibreOffice. The Google Docs link asks you to make a copy in your own Drive; the original stays blank for the next person. Send the posting the format it asks for, usually .docx or PDF.
