Social Media Manager CV Example (UK)

A Social Media Manager CV in the UK gets two readers. A marketing director or agency account lead wants to know which channels you ran, for what kind of brand, with what budget, and what changed because of your work. A recruiter screening against the job advert wants the platforms, the tools and the sector named in plain words. Neither will hire on follower counts alone; they hire on reach that turned into enquiries, sales, sign-ups or a calmer inbox during a bad week.

The Sample CV below belongs to a Social Media Manager with seven years across a Yorkshire agency and an in-house retail team, leading organic, paid and community work for a regional homeware brand. Each bullet ties a channel decision to a business result and says what she did herself, not what the team did around her.

If you are applying for American roles, the US social media manager resume example is written for employers there on Letter paper. For a UK agency or brand, keep the CV to two sides of A4 and send a portfolio link with it. The Impact template gives a social CV some presence without hiding the text from a tracking system.

Updated . The person and employers in this Sample CV are fictional. Written for applicants in the UK; the page for applicants in the US is the social media manager resume example.

Social Media Manager, Retail and Lifestyle Brands, Organic and Paid Social

Leeds, LS6freya.calloway@example.com07700 900623

Summary

Social Media Manager with seven years running organic, paid and community channels for retail and lifestyle brands in the North of England, the last three in-house for a homeware retailer with 34 stores. Manage a paid social budget of £180,000 a year and a team of two, and report weekly to the head of marketing on revenue attributed to social rather than on likes. Built the brand's short-form video from nothing to its strongest channel for first-time customers, and wrote the escalation plan the business used during a product recall in 2024.

Experience

Social Media Manager, Kirkstall Home and Living

– Present

Leeds

  • Lead social for a homeware retailer with 34 stores and a growing online shop, owning the content calendar, a £180,000 annual paid social budget and a team of one executive and one freelance videographer.
  • Moved paid spend from boosted posts to structured Meta and TikTok campaigns with a separate prospecting and retargeting budget; online revenue attributed to paid social rose from £410,000 to £690,000 in two financial years at a lower cost per order.
  • Launched a weekly short-form series filmed in two stores by staff volunteers, which became the brand's largest source of first-time online customers within a year.
  • Wrote and ran the social response during a 2024 product recall: holding statements approved with legal in under two hours, a pinned FAQ and a daily reply rota, with complaints resolved in the comments rather than escalating to the press.
Senior Social Media Executive, Aire Valley Creative

–

Leeds

  • Managed organic and paid social for six agency clients at once, including a regional brewery, a building society and a garden centre group, with monthly reports written for each client's own targets.
  • Pitched and won a retained social account for a Harrogate spa hotel group by presenting a month of mocked-up content in the pitch rather than a strategy deck.
  • Introduced a shared approvals board and a two-day sign-off rule with clients, which ended last-minute changes to scheduled posts and cut weekend working for the team.
Social Media and Marketing Assistant, Wharfedale Outdoor Supplies

–

Otley

  • Ran the company's Facebook and Instagram accounts and answered customer messages within the working day.

How a UK CV differs

A UK Social Media Manager CV differs from the American version in vocabulary and in what the reader checks. Budgets are in pounds and reported by financial year, the job is often called Social Media Executive at the level below, and the qualifications that carry weight are a CIM award or a DMI certificate rather than an American college credential. UK employers also look for awareness of the CAP Code and the ASA's rules on advertising disclosure, which do not appear on a US page.

For a social media manager in the UK

  1. Portfolio link at the top

Put a short link to a portfolio or a few live campaigns next to your contact details. Hiring managers in UK agencies click it before they read the second page, so choose three pieces with a result each.

  2. Brand, sector and size

Say whether you were in-house or agency, what kind of brand and how big: thirty-four stores, six clients, a national charity. A Leeds agency and a London fashion house hire for different things.

  3. Results tied to the business

Give revenue, enquiries, sign-ups or complaint handling time next to any reach figure. Followers alone read as an account that grew without anyone being able to say why.

  4. Advertising rules

If you have run creator or influencer work, mention the disclosure rules you followed under the CAP Code. It shows a director you will not create a problem with the ASA.

  5. Executive or Manager

UK adverts use Social Media Executive for the hands-on role and Manager when you own budget or people. Use the title you held, and make the budget and team size clear so the reader can place you.

Every CV in the UK

A4 paper
Set the page to A4, 210 by 297 millimetres. A Letter-sized PDF prints with odd margins on A4 and reads as imported from the US.
Two pages is normal
Most UK CVs run to two pages. One page suits a first job; three is rare and only for senior roles with a lot to show.
No photo, no date of birth
UK employers do not expect a photo, a date of birth, marital status or nationality on a CV, and most prefer not to see them.
Dates as DD/MM/YYYY
Day first where a full date appears, and month and year for each role: "Mar 2022 – Present". Never the US month-first order.
British English
Organise, programme, centre, licence, specialise. A CV in American spelling reads as written for somewhere else.
Town and postcode area, not a street address
A line such as "Manchester, M4" is enough. A full postal address, and the US-style "City, ST 12345" line, are not expected.

How the CV changes with experience

The same social media manager CV, written at three levels: a profile and three bullets for each.

Entry level

Zero to two years, or a first post in the title

Social Media Executive with eighteen months scheduling, writing and reporting for a small agency's retail and hospitality clients, ready to own a brand's channels end to end.

  • Write and schedule around sixty posts a month across four client accounts in Sprout Social, all approved before the end of the previous week.
  • Answer comments and direct messages for a café group on weekdays, passing anything about allergies or refunds straight to the operations manager.
  • Built a monthly report template that shows clients link clicks and enquiries next to reach, which the agency now uses for every account.

Mid level

Three to seven years, owns a process or a workload

Social Media Manager with five years in-house at a charity, running organic and paid social for fundraising campaigns and a volunteer community of several thousand people.

  • Plan the social side of three national fundraising appeals a year with the campaigns and supporter care teams.
  • Set up a moderation policy and a weekend rota after a hostile pile-on, so volunteers were never left to reply alone.
  • Moved a third of the paid budget to lead forms for event sign-ups, which now fill earlier than in previous years.

Senior

Eight years or more, leads people, budgets or programmes

Head of Social with twelve years in agencies and brands, leading a team of seven across content, community and paid for a national fashion retailer.

  • Lead a team of seven and an annual social budget of £1.4 million, reporting to the marketing director.
  • Set the brand's creator programme, contracts and disclosure rules in line with ASA and CMA guidance.
  • Restructured the team around channels rather than campaigns, which ended duplicated work between paid and organic.

Skills to put on the social media manager CV

Hard skills

Paid social on Meta and TikTok
Most UK brands now expect the social lead to run or brief paid campaigns, and a director wants to see spend managed against revenue, not just reach.
Short-form video
Reels and TikTok are where most brands find new customers, and a manager who can plan, shoot on a phone and edit quickly saves an agency fee.
Community management
Replies, moderation and handing complaints to the right team protect the brand every day, and they are what customers remember.
Measurement in GA4 with UTM links
Tying a post to a visit and a sale is how social earns its budget in the next planning round.
Crisis and escalation planning
A recall, a bad review that spreads or a staff post gone wrong will happen, and employers want someone who has a plan before it does.
Influencer and creator briefs
UK advertising rules require clear disclosure, and a manager who writes tight briefs and contracts keeps the brand out of an ASA ruling.
Scheduling and listening tools
Adverts often name Sprout Social, Hootsuite or Brandwatch, and naming the one you use gets you past the first screen.

Soft skills

Judgement under pressure
Deciding in minutes whether to reply, hide, escalate or say nothing is most of the job on a difficult day.
Writing in someone else's voice
A building society and a brewery should not sound alike, and directors read your examples for range.
Stakeholder management
Legal, customer service, store teams and the founder all have views on a post, and the work only ships if you can bring them along.
Curiosity
Platforms change their features and formats every few months, and the best managers test the new ones before a competitor does.

Mistakes that cost social media manager interviews

  1. Followers as the headline

A follower figure tells the reader nothing about the business. Lead with what social did: online orders, bookings, enquiries, fewer calls to customer service. Keep follower growth as supporting detail.

  2. Every platform listed

Listing eight platforms suggests you have run none of them well. Name the two or three you managed with budget and results, and mention the others only if the advert asks for them.

  3. Team results claimed as your own

Agency directors know how campaigns are built. Say which part was yours, such as the idea, the paid structure or the community rota, and credit the team for the rest. It reads as more confident, not less.

  4. No portfolio, or a broken one

A social CV without examples asks the reader to trust you. Check every link the morning you send the CV, and remove client work you are not allowed to show.

  5. A CV that looks like a post

Bright graphics, icons and text in images can stop a tracking system reading your CV. Keep the design clean and let the portfolio carry the visuals.

Write bullets with the XYZ formula: what changed, the number that shows it, and how you did it, in one line.

Questions about the social media manager CV

What goes on a Social Media Manager CV in the UK?

Your channels, the brand or clients you ran them for, your budget in pounds, your team size and the business result of your work. Add the tools named in the advert, a CIM or DMI qualification if you have one, and a portfolio link next to your contact details.

Should a social CV link to my own accounts?

Only if they show the kind of work the employer wants and nothing on them would worry a client. Most managers link to the brand accounts they ran and a short portfolio instead.

How can I show results from a small account?

Measure what mattered to that business: bookings from a direct message, enquiries from a lead form, reviews answered within the day. A café that filled its quiet Tuesday is a stronger story than a large account that grew by itself.

Is agency or in-house experience better for a UK social role?

Neither is better; they show different things. Agency work shows range and speed across clients, in-house work shows depth and results over time. Say clearly which you have and lead with the one the advert describes.

How do I move up from Social Media Executive to Manager?

Show that you already own something: a budget, a channel, a campaign from idea to report, or a junior you trained. Managers are hired for decisions, so write bullets about the choices you made and what they changed.

How do I tailor my CV to each social media advert?

Match the platforms, sector and budget level in the advert, move those bullets to the top and shorten the rest. Paste the advert into Resume Master to get a version of your CV ordered against it, then check every figure is one you can talk through at interview.
