Marketing Manager CV Example (UK)

A Marketing Manager CV in the UK has to prove return on spend before it proves creativity. Marketing directors and recruiters scan for the channels you own, the budget you manage in pounds, the size of your team and the results tied to revenue: leads, cost per acquisition, conversion and retention. A CIM qualification helps at the shortlist, and the measured result is what gets the interview.

The Sample CV below is for a marketing manager with seven years across a garden centre group in Reading and a software firm in the Thames Valley. Each bullet connects a campaign or programme to a number, and the profile names the channels, the budget and the team, so the reader knows the scale of the role in seconds.

Tailor it for each vacancy, whether it comes through an agency, a company careers page or a trade title. A growth role wants paid media, testing and acquisition cost; a brand role wants positioning, creative and awareness; a B2B role wants pipeline, events and sales enablement. The US counterpart of this page is the marketing manager resume example, written for American employers on one Letter page with dollar budgets; a UK CV runs to two sides of A4 and quotes pounds.

Updated . The person and employers in this Sample CV are fictional. Written for applicants in the UK; the page for applicants in the US is the marketing manager resume example.

How a UK CV differs

A UK Marketing Manager CV runs to two sides of A4, not the one-page American resume, and it quotes budgets and revenue in pounds. The professional body is the Chartered Institute of Marketing: a CIM Level 4 or Level 6 qualification and MCIM after your name are recognised at the shortlist, where the American page would lean on platform certificates alone. The title ladder is Executive, Senior Executive, Manager, Senior Manager, Head of Marketing, and a UK recruiter reads a jump between them closely. UK marketing also works under GDPR, PECR and the ASA's advertising codes, so consent, opt-in and compliant claims belong on the CV. Degree classification matters for your first few years; a portfolio link matters more once the work exists.

For a marketing manager in the UK

  1. CIM and MCIM, not just platform badges

List your CIM qualification with the level and year, and MCIM or ACIM after your name if you hold it. Keep Google and HubSpot certificates underneath; they help for performance roles but do not carry the page.

  2. Pounds, team size and the title ladder

Give the budget in pounds, the team size and your exact title at each step: Executive, Senior Executive, Manager. A UK recruiter places you on the ladder from those three facts.

  3. GDPR, PECR and the CAP code

Say that your email and lifecycle work ran on consent and opt-in, and that your campaigns cleared the ASA rules where claims were made. It is a specific UK competence that an American CV never mentions.

  4. Sector words that match the advert

B2B, FMCG, retail, charity and public sector marketing use different measures. Use the advert's own terms, such as pipeline for B2B or footfall for retail, so the keyword match and the director both find them.

  5. A portfolio link and referees on request

Put one link to a portfolio or case studies in the contact line if your work is visual, and write referees available on request. Two referees are asked for at offer stage, not before.

Every CV in the UK

A4 paper
Set the page to A4, 210 by 297 millimetres. A Letter-sized PDF prints with odd margins on A4 and reads as imported from the US.
Two pages is normal
Most UK CVs run to two pages. One page suits a first job; three is rare and only for senior roles with a lot to show.
No photo, no date of birth
UK employers do not expect a photo, a date of birth, marital status or nationality on a CV, and most prefer not to see them.
Dates as DD/MM/YYYY
Day first where a full date appears, and month and year for each role: "Mar 2022 – Present". Never the US month-first order.
British English
Organise, programme, centre, licence, specialise. A CV in American spelling reads as written for somewhere else.
Town and postcode area, not a street address
A line such as "Manchester, M4" is enough. A full postal address, and the US-style "City, ST 12345" line, are not expected.

How the CV changes with experience

The same marketing manager CV, written at three levels: a profile and three bullets for each.

Entry level

Zero to two years, or a first post in the title

Marketing executive with two years running social media and email for a small consumer brand, now working towards the CIM Level 4 Certificate. Creative, organised and comfortable with numbers.

  • Plan and post content across three social channels, growing the audience month on month.
  • Build the monthly email campaigns and test subject lines to lift open rates.
  • Coordinated a product launch evening with the sales team and a local venue.

Mid level

Three to seven years, owns a process or a workload

Marketing manager with five years leading demand generation for a SaaS company, measured on pipeline and cost per opportunity.

  • Own the demand generation targets and a £700,000 annual budget.
  • Built a webinar programme that became a leading source of qualified pipeline.
  • Lifted landing page conversion through a programme of monthly tests.

Senior

Eight years or more, leads people, budgets or programmes

Head of marketing with twelve years leading integrated teams and growing revenue across brands, channels and two acquisitions.

  • Lead a marketing team of fourteen across brand, growth and product marketing.
  • Set the annual marketing plan and a £6 million budget with the executive team.
  • Delivered growth in marketing-sourced revenue in each of the last four financial years.

Skills to put on the marketing manager CV

Hard skills

Channel ownership
Name the channels you run, such as paid search, email or partnerships, because adverts and the keyword match screen on them directly.
Budget management in pounds
The budget size tells a reader your level, and efficient spend is a result every marketing director values.
Analytics and attribution
GA4, attribution and reporting are how you prove the impact, and the tools are named in most adverts.
Marketing automation and CRM
HubSpot, Marketo or Salesforce skills connect your campaigns to the sales results a director cares about.
Experimentation
Testing shows you improve campaigns with evidence rather than opinion, which is what a growth role is hiring for.
GDPR, PECR and the advertising codes
UK marketing runs under data and advertising rules, and a manager who knows consent, opt-in and the CAP code saves the company a complaint.
Brand and positioning
Clear positioning makes every channel work harder, and strategic thinking is what separates a manager from an executive.

Soft skills

Leading a team
Managers are judged on what the team delivers, so show the people you lead and what they achieved.
Working with sales
Marketing that sales trusts produces revenue, and the alignment question comes up in most interviews.
Creative judgement
Knowing which idea will land with the audience is still the heart of marketing, and a director wants to see it in the work.

Mistakes that cost marketing manager interviews

  1. Vanity measures

Impressions and likes rarely move a marketing director. Tie the work to leads, customers, revenue or cost per acquisition wherever you can, in pounds.

  2. No budget or team size

A Marketing Manager with no stated budget or team is hard to place on the ladder. Say what you managed so the reader sees the level in the first sentence.

  3. Every tool you have ever logged into

Keep the platforms you use well, especially the ones in the advert. A long list reads as breadth without depth and gives the keyword match nothing to rank.

  4. Campaigns with no result

Launched the spring campaign is not an achievement. Say what it produced and how you measured it, and name the test if there was one.

  5. A designed CV the tracking system cannot read

Marketers are tempted by a graphic layout. Keep the text in a clear two-column or single-column structure so screening software reads your experience, and put the creative work in the portfolio.

Questions about the marketing manager CV

What should a Marketing Manager CV include?

The channels you own, budget in pounds and team size, measured results tied to revenue or acquisition, your CIM qualification, the key tools, and a portfolio link if the work is visual.

Is a CIM qualification worth listing?

Yes. A CIM Level 4 or Level 6 and MCIM after your name are recognised by UK recruiters and many adverts ask for them or an equivalent. List the level and year, and keep platform certificates below it.

How do I show results without exact figures?

Use direction and relative change, such as lower acquisition cost or the highest-return channel, and explain the decision the result supported. For example, a fifth off cost per acquisition is a sentence a reader can use.

How long should a Marketing Manager CV be?

Two sides of A4. A marketing executive fits one; a head of marketing may use the full two, with the earliest roles compressed to a line each.

How do I move from executive to Marketing Manager?

Show ownership: a channel you ran end to end, a budget you held, a campaign you led, a junior you trained. Write them as results, add the CIM Level 6 if you can, and apply for manager roles whose budget matches the one you already handle.

How do I tailor the CV to each vacancy?

Mirror the advert's channels and measures where they are true of you, move the closest campaign to the top and rewrite the profile for that company's growth problem. Resume Master tailors the CV against a pasted advert in about two minutes, and the first three AI credits need no card.
