Full Stack Developer Resume Example

Full stack developer resumes fail when they read as a list of every framework the candidate has touched. Hiring managers want to know which features you shipped end to end, which layer you are strongest in, and what happened to users or revenue after you shipped.

The Sample resume below is for a full stack developer with six years at two product companies, working in React and TypeScript on the front end and Node.js with PostgreSQL behind it. Each bullet names a feature, the layers it touched and the result: conversion, load time, support tickets or revenue. That structure lets a reader see both breadth and depth without a separate skills essay.

Tailor the balance to each posting. A startup wants someone who can carry a feature from schema to screen alone; a larger company usually hires full stack developers into a team with a lean toward one side, so lead with that side. Name the exact stack in the posting where you have honest experience with it. The front-end developer example goes deeper on the interface layer, the SQL developer example on the database, and the Kernel template suits a developer resume with a compact tools column.

How the resume changes with experience

The same full stack developer resume, written at three levels: a summary and three bullets for each.

Entry level

Zero to two years, or a first role in the title

Junior full stack developer with a software engineering degree, a six-month internship on a React and Django team, and two deployed personal projects with real users.

  • Built and deployed a meal-planning web app with a React front end and a Django REST back end that about 400 people have signed up for.
  • Fixed 30 bugs during a six-month internship, including a race condition in order status updates that had confused customers for months.
  • Chose PostgreSQL over a document store for a class project after mapping the relationships, and defended the choice in the design review.

Mid level

Three to seven years, owns a process or a workload

Full stack developer with four years of experience owning features from database schema to user interface in a Vue and Node.js codebase.

  • Ship two to three customer-facing features a quarter across the front end, API and database.
  • Brought the average page load on the account dashboard from 3.2 seconds to 1.1 through code splitting and query fixes.
  • Pushed back on a request to duplicate pricing logic in the front end, and built a shared validation package instead.

Senior

Eight years or more, leads people, budgets or programs

Senior full stack engineer with ten years of experience leading feature teams, defining service boundaries and mentoring developers across the stack at a company with 200 engineers.

  • Technical lead for a team of six building the checkout and payments domain for a marketplace processing about $80 million a year.
  • Led the migration from a monolith to four services over eighteen months with no customer-facing downtime.
  • Decided against adopting a new front-end framework the team was excited about, documenting the migration cost against the expected gain.

Skills to put on the full stack developer resume

Hard skills

React, Vue or Angular on the front end
Postings almost always name one, and matching it shows you can start contributing to the interface in your first week.
A server-side language and framework
Node.js, Python, Java or C# on the back end is what separates a full stack developer from a front-end specialist, so name yours and what you built with it.
Relational database design and SQL
Schema decisions and slow queries are where full stack developers earn trust, and interviewers ask about them directly.
API design
REST or GraphQL APIs are the seam between the layers you own, and a well-designed one is easy to describe in an interview.
Testing across layers
Unit, integration and end-to-end tests show you can ship without breaking things, which is what managers worry about most with generalists.
Cloud deployment and containers
Smaller teams expect full stack developers to deploy their own work, and Docker with a cloud provider on the page removes that doubt.
Git and code review
Every team works this way, and a note about reviewing others' code signals seniority beyond your years.

Soft skills

Product thinking
Full stack developers sit close to the user, and managers value people who ask why a feature matters before building it.
Context switching
Moving between CSS and query plans in one afternoon is the job, and examples of it prove you can handle the breadth.
Clear technical writing
Pull request descriptions, API docs and design notes are how your work reaches the rest of the team.
Ownership
Startups in particular hire full stack developers to carry features alone, and end-to-end bullets are the proof.

Mistakes that cost full stack developer interviews

  1. Listing every technology you have ever used

Twenty logos in a skills section tells a hiring manager you are shallow in most of them. Keep the list to what you could be interviewed on tomorrow, and put the rest in the bullets where you used it.

  2. No end-to-end feature stories

The whole point of the title is owning a feature across layers. Write at least two bullets that trace one feature from database to interface and name the result.

  3. Hiding your stronger side

Nearly every full stack developer leans one way. Say which, because a team hiring for back-end depth will pass over a page that reads as evenly split and vague.

  4. Bullets without users or numbers

Implemented features using React and Node.js could describe anyone. Add who used the feature, how many, and what changed for them or for the business.

  5. Forgetting deployment and operations

If you have deployed your own services, set up CI or handled an incident, say so. It is the difference between a developer and a developer who can be left alone with production.

Questions about the full stack developer resume

Should a full stack developer resume include a portfolio or GitHub link?

Yes, when the repositories show complete projects with a readme, tests and a deployed version. Put the link in the header. If your best work is private employer code, describe it in the bullets and skip the link.

How do I show both front-end and back-end skills without a huge list?

Group the skills section into two or three short lines by layer, then let the experience bullets show each layer in action. A feature that touched schema, API and interface says more than any list.

How many projects should a junior full stack developer list?

Two or three finished projects with real users beat ten tutorials. For each, give the stack, what it does, one measurable fact and a link that works.

Is full stack developer the same as software engineer on a resume?

Software engineer is broader and includes embedded, systems and data work. Use the title the posting uses, and keep the full stack framing for roles that expect you to own web features across layers.

How long should a full stack developer resume be?

One page through about six years, two pages once you have led teams or worked across several products. Cut older jobs to a line or two rather than dropping the recent detail.

Every application goes out fitting the job.
