Mistakes that cost java developer interviews

  1. Writing Java without a version or framework

    Java alone is too broad for an enterprise recruiter. Say which version and which frameworks, such as Java 17 with Spring Boot and Hibernate, so the filter finds you.

  2. Hiding legacy work

    Maintaining an old system is not a weakness to hide. Show what you improved: faster batch jobs, fewer defects, an upgrade completed, tests added where there were none.

  3. Ignoring the business domain

    Claims, loans, payments or orders are what the code does. Naming the domain tells a hiring manager at an insurer or bank that you already understand their world.

  4. No mention of production responsibility

    Enterprise teams want developers who care what happens after release. Mention on-call, incident fixes or release coordination if you did them.

  5. Certifications out of date or missing context

    A Java certification helps most when it is recent. List the exact name and year, and do not rely on it in place of project results.
