Marketing Intern Resume Example

A marketing intern resume needs numbers the way a campaign report does: followers gained, open rates, event attendance, leads collected. Marketing managers hire interns to run the tactical work they have no time for, and they pick the student whose resume already reads like a results report rather than a list of interests.

The Sample resume below is for a third-year marketing major in Chicago who completed one internship at a small consumer brand, spent a school year as a campus brand ambassador, and runs social media for a student board with 3,000 followers. Every entry carries a metric she pulled herself from the platform or the client, and her certifications in analytics and email marketing are the kind a hiring manager can verify in a minute.

If you have no marketing experience at all, start with the internship example for how to frame class projects, then come back here for the metrics. The roles this internship leads to are on the marketing manager example, the social media manager example and the digital marketing example. The Launch template gives a header band for a portfolio link, and the student resume builder can tailor the summary to each posting.

How the resume changes with experience

The same marketing intern resume, written at three levels: a summary and three bullets for each.

Entry level

Zero to two years, or a first role in the title

Second-year marketing student with no internship yet, applying for a first summer marketing internship on the strength of a class client project, a club social media role and a Google Analytics certification earned this spring.

  • Ran Instagram for a 60-member student club, posting three times a week and doubling followers in a semester.
  • Wrote the survey and analyzed 200 responses for a class project that recommended a new loyalty program to a local cafe.
  • Completed the Google Analytics certification before applying so the skills section had something a manager could verify.

Mid level

Three to seven years, owns a process or a workload

Third-year marketing major with one completed internship at a consumer brand, a year as a campus brand ambassador and a social media coordinator role, seeking a second internship in brand or digital marketing.

  • Email campaigns to 22,000 subscribers produced $18,000 in attributed revenue over one summer.
  • Grew a student organization's Instagram from 1,100 to 3,000 followers and lifted event attendance by a third.
  • Proposed the customer survey the founders had not planned, and the results changed the fall product lineup.

Senior

Eight years or more, leads people, budgets or programs

Graduating marketing major with two internships, one at a consumer brand and one at an agency, seeking a marketing coordinator or associate role in brand or growth marketing.

  • Managed four client social accounts at the agency internship with a combined 90,000 followers and a monthly reporting deck for each.
  • Paid social tests I ran lowered a client's cost per lead from $31 to $19 across a six-week campaign.
  • Recommended the agency drop a platform that was costing a client more than it returned, which the account lead accepted.

Skills to put on the marketing intern resume

Hard skills

Analytics certification and tools
Google Analytics and a dashboard tool are what the intern will be asked to pull reports from on the first day, and the certification is proof you can.
Email marketing platform
Email is the channel small brands can measure most directly, and a campaign count with an open rate is the metric managers compare.
Short-form video and social platforms
Most intern postings now ask for TikTok and Instagram content production, and view counts are the result that gets noticed.
Copywriting
Captions, subject lines and landing page text are intern work, and a bullet with a measured response shows you can write for a reader, not a grade.
Campaign tracking and UTMs
Knowing how a click becomes a line in a report separates a student who posts from one who markets.
Survey and research basics
Marketing research coursework becomes real when you have collected and presented responses, and managers want interns who can do both.
Design tools
Interns produce the assets, so naming Canva or Adobe tools and linking a portfolio saves the manager from guessing at your taste.

Soft skills

Reporting on your own work
A weekly report with the numbers, good and bad, is how a marketing manager learns to trust an intern with a budget.
Writing for a brand voice
Interns write in someone else's voice all summer, and a brand ambassador or club role shows you have practiced it.
Comfort with the public
Sampling events, trade shows and customer calls fall to interns, and a line with handouts or sign-ups per event shows you can do it.
Taking feedback on creative work
Every caption and video gets edited, and managers prefer an intern who revises quickly over one who defends a draft.

Mistakes that cost marketing intern interviews

  1. Listing platforms instead of results

Proficient in Instagram and TikTok describes almost every applicant. Replace it with what you did on those platforms and what happened: posts published, followers gained, views, sign-ups, sales.

  2. Skipping the campus and club roles

Running a student organization's social accounts is real marketing with a real audience. Give it an entry with dates, follower growth, attendance changes and the budget you managed.

  3. No portfolio link

Marketing managers want to see the work. Put a link to a simple page of your best posts, emails and the class project deck in the header, and make sure every item on it is something you made or clearly co-made.

  4. Claiming results you did not measure

Increased engagement significantly invites the question by how much. If you did not have access to the number, describe the work and the qualitative outcome, and start measuring on your next project.

  5. A generic summary

Passionate about marketing and social media wastes three lines. Name the type of internship you want, the one or two results that qualify you, and the certifications you hold.

  6. Forgetting the class client project

A research or strategy project for a real business, presented to its owner, is the closest thing to agency work most students have. Put it in the education entry or as its own project entry with the recommendation you made.

Questions about the marketing intern resume

What should a marketing intern resume include with no experience?

A class project for a real client, any club or event you promoted with the numbers you can find, a personal account or blog if it has an audience, and one certification such as Google Analytics or HubSpot. Write each with the audience size and the result, and keep it to one page.

Which marketing certifications are worth putting on an intern resume?

Google Analytics, Google Ads, HubSpot's content and email marketing courses, and Meta's social media marketing certificate are free or inexpensive and recognized by hiring managers. One or two completed ones beat a list of six in progress.

Should I include a link to my personal social media?

Only if the account is public, professional in tone and shows marketing skill, such as a food, fashion or campus account with a few thousand followers. Otherwise link a portfolio page instead.

How do I describe a brand ambassador job?

As a marketing role with event counts, samples distributed, sign-ups or codes redeemed, and your rank among ambassadors if the program published one. Add any training or reporting you were responsible for.

Do marketing internships want a cover letter?

Agencies and consumer brands often do, because writing is the job. Keep it to three paragraphs that show your voice, name one campaign of theirs you admire and why, and point to a result from your resume.

When do companies hire summer marketing interns?

Large consumer brands and agencies post in September through November for the following summer. Small businesses and startups hire in February through April, so run two waves of applications.

Every application goes out fitting the job.
