Production Assistant Resume Example

Production assistants are hired on reliability. Line producers and coordinators want to know that you show up before call time, follow radio etiquette, keep paperwork straight and can be trusted with a vehicle, a department or a set of keys. The resume has to show that in a few quick lines.

The Sample resume below belongs to a production assistant with five years on commercials, television and a feature film, now working as a key set PA and moving toward coordinator roles. Bullets name the production type, the department, crew size and the responsibilities that grew over time: lockups, walkie distribution, call sheets, background wrangling and daily production reports.

Keep a short credits list for productions, then use the bullets for the work itself. For office PA roles, lead with paperwork, scheduling and vendor contact; for set roles, lead with lockups, crowd control and working with the assistant directors. If you want to move into post, compare the video editor example. The Creative template makes a credits list easy to scan.

How the resume changes with experience

The same production assistant resume, written at three levels: a summary and three bullets for each.

Entry level

Zero to two years, or a first role in the title

Film student and day-player production assistant with a handful of commercial and student shoots, eager to work long days on set.

  • Worked eight days as a set PA on regional commercials, handling lockups and runs.
  • Organized call sheets and props for four student short films.
  • Kept holding areas clean and stocked for cast and crew on a music video shoot.

Three to seven years, owns a process or a workload

Production assistant with three years on commercials and unscripted television, trusted with paperwork and small teams of PAs.

  • Track daily costs and schedule changes with the line producer and the assistant directors.

Skills to put on the production assistant resume

Hard skills

Set protocol and radio etiquette
Assistant directors need PAs who know the language of a set, so this is often the first thing they ask about.
Production paperwork
Call sheets, sign-ins and production reports are how productions stay on schedule and pay people correctly.
Lockups and background handling
Controlling a location and moving extras well lets the crew shoot on time.
Driving and logistics
Many PA jobs require a clean license and comfort driving vans or trucks for runs and pickups.
Spreadsheets and shared calendars
Office PAs track deliveries, schedules and petty cash, and clean records keep coordinators happy.
First aid and safety awareness
Sets have real hazards, and PAs who know safety basics are trusted with more.

Soft skills

Reliability
PAs are rehired by word of mouth, and arriving early every day is what earns the next booking.
Staying calm under pressure
Sets change quickly, and people who stay steady on the radio help the whole crew.
Taking direction
PAs work for several departments at once and need to follow instructions quickly and precisely.

Mistakes that cost production assistant interviews

  1. Only a list of credits

Titles of productions show where you have been, not what you can do. Add bullets for your responsibilities: lockups, paperwork, walkies, background, driving.

  2. No sense of crew size or scale

A three-person shoot and a 120-person series are different jobs. Include crew sizes, extras and number of shoot days where you can.

  3. Leaving out your license and certifications

Many productions need PAs who can drive. Mention a clean license and any first aid or safety training.

  4. Ignoring commercials and unscripted work

Commercial and reality shoots count. They teach speed and client handling, and coordinators hiring for scripted work value both.

  5. No contact references

Productions hire through recommendations. Have two or three assistant directors or coordinators ready to vouch for you, and say so at the bottom of the page.

Questions about the production assistant resume

How do I write a production assistant resume with little experience?

List student films, music videos and day-player shoots with dates and your role. Add the entry-level lines above, a clean driving record and any first aid training.

Should a production assistant resume include a credits list?

Yes. Keep it short: production title, type, your role and year. Put the most recent and most relevant productions first.

What is the difference between a set PA and an office PA?

Set PAs work with the assistant directors on the shooting location; office PAs support the production office with paperwork, deliveries and scheduling. Write the resume toward the one you want.

How do production assistants move up?

Many become key set PA, then second second assistant director or production coordinator. Show the responsibilities you already cover, such as paperwork or leading other PAs.

Do PAs need a resume if most jobs come through referrals?

Yes. The person referring you will often forward it to the coordinator, who checks it before booking you.
