Customer Service Representative CV Example (New Zealand)

Contact centre team leaders in New Zealand hire for resolution, tone and volume, and they measure all three. Your CV should show the channels you work in (phone, chat, email, counter), how many contacts you handle a day, and the measures your team reports, such as customer satisfaction, first-contact resolution and average handling time. Numbers turn a common title into a specific application a team leader can picture on the floor.

The Sample CV below is for a Customer Service Representative with five years in an Auckland electricity retailer's contact centre and a broadband provider's chat team. Each bullet pairs a measure with the habit behind it and shows the extra responsibilities that lead to a senior or team leader role: taking escalations, buddying new starters and writing knowledge-base articles that cut repeat calls.

Tailor it to the advert on Seek or Trade Me Jobs. A bank or insurer wants accuracy and compliance; a power or telco company wants volume and retention; a council wants the counter as well as the phone; a software company wants tickets and product knowledge. Name the systems the advert names, such as Zendesk or Salesforce. The US counterpart of this page is the customer service representative resume example, written for American call centres on Letter paper, and the Civic template keeps the page plain for high-volume applying.

Updated . The person and employers in this Sample CV are fictional. Written for applicants in New Zealand; the page for applicants in the US is the customer service representative resume example.

How a New Zealand CV differs

A customer service CV in New Zealand uses a different vocabulary from the American one. The workplace is a contact centre, spelt the British way; the title is Customer Service Representative or Consultant, and the next step is Senior or Team Leader; the law that comes up on the phone is the Consumer Guarantees Act, not a state statute; and languages carry real weight in a country where te reo Māori, Samoan, Tongan, Mandarin and Hindi are spoken on the line every day. One to two pages on A4, referees expected, and a one-line note on your right to work if you are not a citizen or resident.

For a customer service representative in New Zealand

  1. Contact centre, representative, team leader

Use the titles New Zealand employers use: Customer Service Representative, Customer Service Consultant, Senior Representative, Team Leader. Agent, and the American spelling of centre, read as imported.

  2. Consumer law is part of the job

A bullet that names the Consumer Guarantees Act, the Fair Trading Act or the Privacy Act, and how you applied it on a call, shows you can be trusted with a complaint.

  3. Languages open doors

List every language you speak and your level near the top. Contact centres serving Pacific, Māori and migrant communities recruit for them by name.

  4. Referees and checks

Name two referees, usually your current team leader and a previous one, or offer them on request. Banks and insurers also ask for a credit check and a Ministry of Justice criminal record check before an offer; say you are happy to provide them.

  5. One to two pages

A representative with two employers fits one page; a senior representative or team leader uses two. Keep the current role and its measures on the first page.

Every CV in New Zealand

A4 paper
New Zealand prints on A4. Set the page size before you export; a Letter-sized PDF is the usual sign of a US template.
Two pages is normal
Two pages is the norm. One page for a first job; a third page only for a long senior career.
No photo
No photo, date of birth or marital status. New Zealand employers do not expect them and most prefer the CV without them.
Dates as DD/MM/YYYY
Day first where a full date appears, and month and year for each role. Never the US month-first order.
New Zealand English
New Zealand English follows British spelling: organise, programme, centre, licence, specialise.
Suburb and city, not a street address
"Mount Eden, Auckland" is enough on the contact line. A full street address is not expected.

How the CV changes with experience

The same customer service representative CV, written at three levels: a profile and three bullets for each.

Entry level

Zero to two years, or a first post in the title

Patient, well-spoken school leaver with retail and volunteer experience helping the public, ready for a first contact centre role.

  • Helped customers with questions and returns at a busy supermarket service desk.
  • Answered the phones and took messages for a community sports club two evenings a week.
  • Pick up new systems quickly and type accurately at 60 words a minute.

Mid level

Three to seven years, owns a process or a workload

Customer support specialist with three years resolving software customer issues over chat and email for a Wellington product company.

  • Resolve 40 to 50 tickets a day for a payroll software product.
  • Keep customer satisfaction above the team target every month.
  • Write clear bug reports that the product team can act on.

Senior

Eight years or more, leads people, budgets or programmes

Contact centre team leader with nine years coaching representatives, handling escalations and lifting service quality in a bank's contact centre.

  • Lead a team of fourteen representatives and review calls weekly for coaching.
  • Lifted the team's first-contact resolution through targeted training on the ten most common calls.
  • Handle the most complex complaints, including those referred to the Banking Ombudsman.

Skills to put on the customer service representative CV

Hard skills

Phone, chat and email support
Most contact centres run all three, so naming the channels you work in tells a team leader where you can start.
Ticketing and CRM systems
Zendesk, Salesforce and Genesys are named in adverts, and the keyword match shortens the training.
Billing and account knowledge
Many contacts are about money, and accuracy prevents the repeat call.
Consumer law basics
The Consumer Guarantees Act and the Fair Trading Act come up on the phone every day, and a representative who knows them protects the company and the customer.
Knowledge-base writing
Help articles cut contacts, which managers value highly.
Typing and data entry
Speed and accuracy affect handling time and the record the next representative reads.

Soft skills

Empathy
Customers calm down when they feel heard, and that makes the resolution easier.
De-escalation
Handling an angry customer well protects the company and the team, and the interview will test it with a role play.
Plain communication
A simple explanation prevents the follow-up contact.
Resilience
A full day of difficult conversations takes steadiness, and team leaders look for it.

Mistakes that cost customer service representative interviews

  1. No measures

Customer service is measured closely. Include the satisfaction score, first-contact resolution, handling time or contacts a day where you have them.

  2. Personality instead of proof

Patient and friendly is expected. Show it through the satisfaction score, the escalations you handled and the new starters you buddied.

  3. Systems left off

Adverts name the ticketing or CRM system. List the ones you use so the keyword match finds them.

  4. American vocabulary

Agent, the American spelling of centre, a ZIP line and a one-page layout on Letter paper tell a New Zealand team leader the CV came from a US template. Use contact centre, representative and A4.

  5. Forgetting languages and the extra responsibilities

A second language, escalations taken and knowledge-base articles written are what move you to senior. Put them where they are seen, not in the last line.

Use any job or activity where you helped the public: retail, hospitality, a sports club, a marae or church role. Show patience and reliability with specific examples and say how fast you type.

What measures should I include?

Customer satisfaction, first-contact resolution, average handling time, contacts a day and quality scores. Use the ones your team reported.
