Warehouse Operative CV Example (UK)

Distribution centres and agencies hire Warehouse Operatives on a few hard facts: which shifts you can work, which trucks you are licensed on, whether you can hold a pick rate on a scanner, and whether you work safely. A shift manager or an agency consultant reads a warehouse CV in under a minute, so those facts belong in the headline and the first lines of the profile, not at the bottom under hobbies.

The Sample CV below is for a Warehouse Operative with five years on nights in two distribution centres near Daventry, picking and packing for a grocery and a parcels operation and now driving reach and counterbalance trucks. Its bullets describe the work in the terms a DC measures it: pick rate against the target, accuracy at the check desk, loads despatched on time, near-miss reports, and the peak season when volumes double and agency staff need showing the ropes.

Tailor it to the site. A chilled grocery DC wants cold-store experience and pace; an online fashion warehouse wants accurate picking of small items and returns processing; a parcels hub wants sortation and loading trailers to a cut-off; a manufacturer's warehouse wants goods-in and stock counts. The US counterpart of this page is the inventory manager resume example, written for American warehouses on a Letter page and pitched at a manager; a UK operative's CV is one or two sides of A4, and the Civic template keeps it plain for agency portals.

Updated . The person and employers in this Sample CV are fictional. Written for applicants in the UK; the page for applicants in the US is the inventory manager resume example.

How a UK CV differs

A UK warehouse CV is shorter and more practical than the American inventory resume this page pairs with. Many roles are filled through recruitment agencies on temporary-to-permanent contracts, and the agency's consultant screens for shifts, licences, transport and right to work before the site sees anything. Put the shift pattern you want and your truck licences with the accrediting body and year in the headline or the first lines, and keep the CV to one or two sides of A4.

For a warehouse operative in the UK

  1. Licences with the accrediting body

Write the truck type, the accrediting body such as RTITB, AITT, NPORS or ITSSAR, and the year of your last refresher. A site will check the certificate before letting you drive.

  2. Shift pattern up front

Nights, days, back shift, 4 on 4 off or weekends: say which you work. A site recruiting for nights does not want to discover at interview that you only do days.

  3. Pick rate without inventing numbers

If you do not know your exact rate, say you met or beat the site target and from which week. Sites measure it, and a reference can confirm it, so do not quote a figure you cannot stand behind.

  4. Agency and temporary work

List agency assignments under the site you worked at and name the agency in brackets, so a long run of short contracts reads as steady work rather than gaps.

  5. Transport to the site

Distribution centres are often on business parks with no night bus. A driving licence, your own transport or a lift-share arrangement belongs on the CV.

Every CV in the UK

A4 paper
Set the page to A4, 210 by 297 millimetres. A Letter-sized PDF prints with odd margins on A4 and reads as imported from the US.
Two pages is normal
Most UK CVs run to two pages. One page suits a first job; three is rare and only for senior roles with a lot to show.
No photo, no date of birth
UK employers do not expect a photo, a date of birth, marital status or nationality on a CV, and most prefer not to see them.
Dates as DD/MM/YYYY
Day first where a full date appears, and month and year for each role: "Mar 2022 – Present". Never the US month-first order.
British English
Organise, programme, centre, licence, specialise. A CV in American spelling reads as written for somewhere else.
Town and postcode area, not a street address
A line such as "Manchester, M4" is enough. A full postal address, and the US-style "City, ST 12345" line, are not expected.

How the CV changes with experience

The same warehouse operative CV, written at three levels: a profile and three bullets for each.

Entry level

Zero to two years, or a first post in the title

Reliable applicant looking for a first Warehouse Operative role on any shift, fit and used to physical work, keen to train on scanners and trucks. Can start immediately.

  • Worked a Christmas season as a temporary picker through an agency, learning the scanner and the site's safety rules in the first week.
  • Helped on a family removals business at weekends, lifting safely and loading vans to fit.
  • Completed a manual handling course and a fire safety awareness module online.

Mid level

Three to seven years, owns a process or a workload

Warehouse Operative with four years in goods-in and stock control at a manufacturer's warehouse, licensed on counterbalance and trusted with cycle counts.

  • Unload and check inbound deliveries against purchase orders, raising discrepancies with suppliers the same day.
  • Run weekly cycle counts and investigate variances with the stock controller before month end.
  • Keep the yard and the loading bays clear and safe for drivers waiting to tip.

Senior

Eight years or more, leads people, budgets or programmes

Warehouse Team Leader with ten years in distribution, leading a night shift of thirty operatives across picking, loading and despatch.

  • Plan labour to the night's volume, balancing permanent and agency staff and moving people between departments as the work changes.
  • Hold the shift to its despatch cut-offs and lead the handover to the day team.
  • Investigate accidents and near misses and close actions with the site's health and safety adviser.

Skills to put on the warehouse operative CV

Hard skills

Material handling equipment licences
Reach, counterbalance, VNA and powered pallet truck licences decide which jobs you can be put on, and licensed operatives are paid more.
Scanner and voice picking
Almost every distribution centre runs its picking from handheld scanners or voice headsets, so experience with them cuts your training time.
Loading to a despatch plan
Trailers leave on a cut-off, and an operative who loads safely and in order keeps the transport plan on time.
Goods-in and stock control
Accurate receipts and counts stop stock going missing on the system, which matters for the whole site.
Health and safety on site
Warehouses are busy with trucks and people, and managers trust operatives who follow routes, wear PPE and report near misses.

Soft skills

Reliability on nights
Night shifts are hard to staff, and a record of turning up for every shift is the first thing an agency asks a previous site about.
Pace with accuracy
A fast picker who sends the wrong item creates returns, so sites look for people who hold the rate and keep errors low.
Helping new starters
Peak brings in many agency workers, and the operative who shows them the ropes is often the next team leader.

Mistakes that cost warehouse operative interviews

  1. Licences listed without a type or a year

Writing forklift licence leaves the site guessing. Name each truck, the accrediting body and the date of the last refresher.

  2. No shifts or availability

Warehouse vacancies are shift-specific. Leaving out the pattern you can work means the agency has to ring to find out, and often rings someone else first.

  3. Hiding agency work

Six short assignments look like gaps unless they are grouped. Show the agency and the sites, and note where you were asked back or kept on.

  4. Only listing duties

Picking and packing is in every warehouse CV. Add how you did it: the rate you held, the accuracy at the check desk, the peak you worked, the starters you trained.

  5. Forgetting safety

A warehouse manager's first worry is accidents. One line on near-miss reporting, PPE and safe lifting answers it before interview.

Write bullets with the XYZ formula: what changed, the number that shows it, and how you did it, in one line.

Questions about the warehouse operative CV

What should a Warehouse Operative put on a CV?

The shift pattern you want, your truck licences with the accrediting body and year, the scanner or voice systems you have used, the type of warehouse, any peak seasons, and your transport. Add one line on safety.

How do I write a warehouse CV with no experience?

Lead with availability and fitness for physical work, then any job that shows reliability and lifting, such as removals, retail stockrooms or farm work. Mention a manual handling course if you have one.

Should I include my forklift licence if it has expired?

Yes, with the year it was issued and a note that a refresher is needed. A site can refresh an experienced driver much faster than it can train a novice.

How long should a warehouse CV be?

One side of A4 for most operatives and two for a team leader. Keep the headline, licences and current site on the first page.

Do I list every agency assignment?

Group them. Write the agency once with the dates, then list the main sites underneath with what you did at each. Short one-week jobs can be summarised in a line.

How do I tailor my CV to each warehouse job?

Match the shift, the trucks and the type of work in the advert, and move that experience to the top. Paste the advert into Resume Master and it rewrites the CV against it in about two minutes.
