Marketing Student Resume Example

A marketing student resume has to do what a campaign does: show results. Hiring managers for marketing internships skip the course list and look for an account you grew, a client you presented to, a certification they recognize and a number next to each one.

The Sample resume below is a junior in Portland who works as a campus brand ambassador for a regional beverage brand, ran a semester-long class project for a neighborhood bakery and interned at a small content agency. Every entry has a metric a student can honestly own: sign-ups at a tabling event, followers on an account she managed, open rates on a newsletter she wrote.

Marketing is a wide field, so the headline names a lane (content, social, analytics, brand) and the bullets back it up. If the lane is design-heavy, read the graphic design student example too. For the roles this page leads to, see the social media manager, digital marketing and marketing manager examples, and the brand ambassador example for the campus job itself. Rules that apply to every student page are on the business student example.

How the resume changes with experience

The same marketing student resume, written at three levels: a summary and three bullets for each.

Entry level

Zero to two years, or a first role in the title

First-year marketing student who ran the social accounts for a high school theater program and a part-time job at a smoothie shop, with the Google Analytics certificate finished in the first term, applying for a campus brand ambassador position.

  • Grew a high school theater program's Instagram from 300 to 1,400 followers over two productions, with ticket sales up for both.
  • Finished the GA4 certification in October of my first term so the resume had one recognized credential before ambassador hiring opened.
  • Asked the smoothie shop owner to let me run a two-week student discount post series, which brought in 60 redemptions she tracked at the register.

Mid level

Three to seven years, owns a process or a workload

Junior marketing student with a brand ambassador role, a content agency internship and a class client project, each with measured results, applying for summer 2026 internships in content and social media marketing.

  • Run four to six sampling events a month and produce two videos a week for a regional beverage brand, with a campus series averaging more than double the brand's views per video.
  • Agency newsletters I wrote averaged a 38 percent open rate against a 31 percent benchmark across four small-business clients.
  • Chose a content agency internship over a bigger brand's event internship because I wanted bylines and analytics, not a logo.

Senior

Eight years or more, leads people, budgets or programs

Graduating marketing senior with two internships, two years as a brand ambassador and a capstone campaign for a regional nonprofit, seeking a full-time marketing coordinator or social media coordinator role starting July 2027.

  • Second internship in a regional retailer's brand team covered a back-to-school campaign across paid social, email and in-store signage with a $45,000 media budget.
  • Capstone team's awareness campaign for a food bank's volunteer drive produced 310 new volunteer sign-ups against a goal of 200.
  • Led the ambassador team's hiring in senior year, choosing two first-years with no experience but strong personal accounts over students with higher GPAs.

Skills to put on the marketing student resume

Hard skills

Google Analytics 4 certification
It is free, recognizable and the quickest way for a student to show they can read a dashboard instead of just posting.
Short-form video
Most entry marketing work in 2026 touches Reels or TikTok, and a view count next to your name proves you can make something people watch.
A scheduling and email tool
Naming Later, Hootsuite, Mailchimp or Klaviyo tells a manager you have run accounts on a calendar, not just your own feed.
Reporting
Interns who can build a monthly report are kept; a bullet on a report template is worth more than one on brainstorming.
Copywriting
Every lane of marketing needs someone who can write a clear caption, subject line or product description quickly.
Customer research methods
Interviews, surveys and a competitor audit from a class project are the only strategy experience most students have, and agencies notice it.
Basic SEO
A blog post that ranked for a local term is a concrete result a content team can verify in a minute.

Soft skills

Comfort talking to strangers
Sampling events and customer interviews are the same skill, and field marketing teams hire for it directly.
Consistency
Posting on a schedule for a full term, through midterms, is the habit that separates students who have run an account from those who have posted.
Taking creative feedback
Agency work means edits; a bullet where you revised and resubmitted shows you can handle them.
Presenting to a client
A bakery owner who adopted your plan is a reference, and the presentation is a skill marketing coordinators use weekly.

Mistakes that cost marketing student interviews

  1. Listing social media as a skill without an account you ran

Everyone your age uses social media. Name the account, the period you managed it, what you posted and what the numbers did. If the only account is your own and it has an audience, give it a line with the follower count and the niche.

  2. Writing creative without evidence

Creative thinker is an adjective. Replace it with the video that outperformed the brand average, the newsletter that beat the benchmark or the special format the client kept using.

  3. Treating the ambassador job as a side gig

A brand ambassador role is field marketing with a reporting line to a regional manager. Give it bullets with event counts, samples, sign-ups and content metrics, and name the brand category even if you cannot name the brand.

  4. A portfolio link to nothing

If you add a portfolio or a link line, make sure it opens to six to ten pieces with a sentence on what each was for and what happened. Managers click it, and an empty page costs more than no link.

  5. Skipping the free certifications

GA4, Meta and HubSpot certificates cost nothing and take a weekend each. Applicant screens for marketing internships often search for them, and a sophomore with two of them beats a junior with none on the first pass.

  6. Using the class project's grade as the result

An A is not an outcome. The outcome is what the client did with your work: adopted the calendar, ran the pilot, saw the follower count move. Write the business result and leave the grade off.

Questions about the marketing student resume

What does a marketing student with no internship put on a resume?

Any account you managed for a club, team, family business or your own project, with the follower, view or engagement numbers; a class project with a real client; a brand ambassador or event job; and the free certifications. Written with numbers, those four items fill a page that gets a first internship.

Which marketing certifications should a student list?

Google Analytics 4 first, then the Meta digital marketing associate certificate and one HubSpot certification in your lane (content, inbound or social). All three are free. Google Ads certifications help for paid-media internships. List them with the issuer and year under certifications, not in the skills list.

Do I need a portfolio as a marketing student?

For content, social and creative lanes, yes, and it can be a simple one-page site. Include six to ten pieces: posts, a video, a newsletter, a short strategy deck from a class project. For analytics or research lanes, a single report sample with a paragraph on the finding does the same job.

How do I describe a brand ambassador job on a resume?

As field marketing. State the brand category, the campus size, the number of events per month, samples or sign-ups, any content you produced with its metrics and who you reported to. If you were given more responsibility, such as a second location or a hiring role, that is a bullet of its own.

Should a marketing student include GPA?

Include it at 3.5 or above. Marketing employers weigh it less than finance or accounting firms do and look harder at results and certifications, so a 3.2 with a grown account and two certificates is not at a disadvantage. Leave it off below 3.5 unless a posting asks.

How is a marketing intern resume different from this page?

This page is the student at any point in the degree; a marketing intern resume is the same person aimed at one posting. Rewrite the headline for the lane in the posting, move the closest experience to the top, and mirror three or four of the posting's own terms. The internship example shows the general shape.

Every application goes out fitting the job.
