An inventory manager is hired to stop money disappearing into the stockroom, and an operations director reading the resume wants to know which operation you ran and what happened to accuracy, value and availability while you ran it. So this template opens with a headline slot for the setting, the number of SKUs and the system, and each job entry starts with a scope line before any bullet.

The bullet slots ask for the measures an operations team already tracks: inventory record accuracy, shrink, inventory value against sales, fill rate or stockouts, and how the counting program works. Bracketed prompts show what each line needs, with a sample measure in parentheses. Put in your own counts and dollars, and remove any slot you cannot back up with a report you could describe in an interview.

Skills sit after Experience, split into control methods and systems, because the posting will name a warehouse or ERP platform and a reader looks for it there. A short Certifications block closes the page before education. The inventory manager resume example shows the layout completed for a distribution center manager.

How to fill in each section

  1. Summary: what you control and what improved

Say what kind of stock you control and how much it is worth in the first sentence, since a hospital supply room and a parts distribution center need different instincts. Use the second sentence for two results: one about accuracy or availability and one about money. The last line names the operation in the posting so a recruiter sees the match before scrolling.

  2. Experience: scope line, then four results

Write a scope line under each job title with SKUs, on-hand value, sites and staff, because those numbers tell a reader the size of the job faster than a description. Bullets then report changes against that baseline: accuracy, shrink, excess stock, stockouts, count variance. If your company measured accuracy by location or by dollar value, say which; a finance reviewer will ask. Keep the bullet about people short unless the posting is mainly about leading a team.

  3. Skills: methods and systems on separate lines

Group control methods, planning methods and systems on their own lines so a reader finding cycle counting does not have to dig past software names. Write each system exactly as the posting does, including the module you used, such as warehouse management or materials management. Excel stays on the list for inventory roles because most variance analysis still happens in a spreadsheet; name the functions you use.

  4. Certifications: only the ones the work uses

A supply chain or production and inventory certification is worth listing with its issuer and year. Equipment and safety training belongs here only when the posting mentions it, which is common in warehouse and manufacturing roles. If you are part way through a certification, write the expected month; it signals the direction you are taking without claiming the credential.

  5. Education: short, after the credentials

Degree, school and year on one line. Inventory roles are often filled from the warehouse floor, so a degree matters less than the counts and controls above it; do not move it higher to fill space. If you studied supply chain or operations, name the major, because some distribution and manufacturing postings screen for it before anything else.

Questions about the inventory manager resume template

How do I show results if my company did not track accuracy?

Use the numbers you can reconstruct: adjustment dollars before and after a change, the count of variances you resolved each week, write-offs at year end, or how long a physical inventory took. Say how you measured it in an interview, not on the page.

Should a warehouse supervisor use this template to move into inventory management?

Yes. Use the first experience slot for supervisory work and rewrite each bullet around stock rather than throughput: receiving errors caught, counts led, locations cleaned up, damage reduced. The supervisor resume example shows how to present the people side of that job.

Where do I mention the ERP or WMS I used?

Name it in the headline when the posting asks for the same platform, and again in the Systems line with the modules you worked in. A reader scanning for a system match should find it in both places within a few seconds.

Is it free?

Yes. The Word files and the Google Docs copy are free to download, edit and use for any application. There is no signup and no email.

Will it read correctly in an applicant tracking system?

The layout is one column with standard headings and real text: no tables, text boxes, icons, columns or images, which are the parts parsers most often misread. Keep it that way as you edit.

Word or Google Docs?

Use whichever you edit in. The Word file opens in Microsoft Word, Pages and LibreOffice. The Google Docs link asks you to make a copy in your own Drive; the original stays blank for the next person. Send the posting the format it asks for, usually .docx or PDF.
