An operations manager is hired to run something of a known size and make it better, so the person reading your resume wants the size first. This template puts Experience immediately after the summary, and the first bullet of each role asks for headcount, sites, shifts, volume and budget before any improvement is claimed. Every later bullet then reads against that scale.

The bullet slots follow how operations leaders are reviewed: the KPIs you own (on-time delivery, units per labor hour, cost per unit, first-contact resolution), what you changed to move them, the safety record of your site, and the people you developed. Skills come after experience, because at this level they confirm methods and systems rather than open the case. Certifications such as Lean Six Sigma or OSHA training sit near the end, and education closes the page.

Use the metric names your industry uses, fill each bracket with real figures, and remove what does not fit. See this layout completed in the operations manager resume example.

How to fill in each section

  1. Summary: setting, scale, the number you moved

Give the setting and the size of your operation in the first sentence: a distribution center, a contact center, a plant, a field service region, with people and budget. The second sentence should carry the result you are proudest of, in the KPI name the industry uses, with a before and after. End with how you lead, phrased as a habit rather than an adjective, such as daily tiered huddles or supervisors who own their shift numbers.

  2. Experience: scale first, then KPIs, cost, safety, people

Open each role with a single scale bullet: sites, square footage, shifts, headcount, budget, daily volume. Then the KPIs you own and how you moved them, with the method in a few words. Cost savings should state the amount and how it was measured. In warehouses and plants, safety belongs on the first page; give incident rates or injury-free time. Finish with people results: supervisors promoted, turnover reduced, a training program that stuck.

  3. Skills: methods, systems, leadership

Keep this block to three lines. Methods show how you improve an operation; systems show how quickly you will be useful, since warehouse, ERP and workforce tools take months to learn; leadership and compliance show what kind of workforce you can run. Name the systems in the posting exactly if you have used them. Avoid listing generic abilities like problem solving; your experience bullets show them better.

  4. Certifications and Training: belts with projects

A Lean Six Sigma belt means more with its project attached, so add the result on the same line. OSHA 30 training matters for warehouse, plant and construction-adjacent roles; supply chain credentials such as CPIM or CSCP help in inventory-heavy settings. List the year for each. Internal leadership programs from a large employer are worth a line when they were selective. Drop expired or unrelated certificates.

  5. Education: one line, at the end

Operations is a field where many managers rose from the floor, and a degree is often preferred rather than required. Give the degree, school and year if you have one; add an MBA or supply chain master's on its own line. If you have no degree, leave the section out or list a relevant program, and let the scale and results in your experience make the case.

Questions about the operations manager resume template

Should an operations manager resume be one page or two?

Two pages is normal once you have run a site or several teams, provided the first page carries the summary, the scale of your current operation and your best KPI results. Earlier supervisor and lead roles can shrink to two lines each on page two.

How do I describe operations work in a service business rather than a warehouse?

Swap the measures, not the structure: calls or tickets handled, service level, first-contact resolution, average handle time, customer satisfaction scores, cost per contact. The scale bullet becomes agents, locations and channels instead of square footage and shifts.

What if I do not have exact KPI figures from my last job?

Use the figures you reported in reviews or meetings, rounded and marked as approximate if needed. If you never saw a number, describe the change and its direction, such as late shipments falling after a pick path redesign, and be ready to explain it.

Is this template right for a supervisor moving up?

Yes. Use the first job slot for your current supervisor or shift manager role and write it with the same scale, KPI and people bullets, so the step up looks like a continuation. The supervisor resume example shows the level you are moving from.

Is it free?

Yes. The Word files and the Google Docs copy are free to download, edit and use for any application. There is no signup and no email.

Will it read correctly in an applicant tracking system?

The layout is one column with standard headings and real text: no tables, text boxes, icons, columns or images, which are the parts parsers most often misread. Keep it that way as you edit.

Word or Google Docs?

Use whichever you edit in. The Word file opens in Microsoft Word, Pages and LibreOffice. The Google Docs link asks you to make a copy in your own Drive; the original stays blank for the next person. Send the posting the format it asks for, usually .docx or PDF.
