An account manager is hired to keep revenue and grow it, so the person screening this resume wants one thing first: how big a set of customers you have looked after, and what happened to it under you. This template answers that inside each job rather than in a separate section. The first bullet under every role is a slot for the portfolio itself (the count of accounts, their combined annual value and the segment) and the bullets beneath it ask what you did with that portfolio.

The layout runs summary, experience, skills, education, with no extra section. Account management has no license to show, and a list of named clients would raise confidentiality questions, so everything that proves your ability lives in the experience block. Skills come after it because a hiring manager reads tools such as Salesforce or Gainsight as supporting detail, not as the reason to call you.

The prompts use the vocabulary of customer retention: gross renewal, net revenue retention, expansion, at-risk saves and business reviews. Delete any slot you cannot back with a figure you would repeat in an interview. To compare against a finished page, open the account manager resume example.

How to fill in each section

  1. Summary: the book in one sentence

Name the segment and the industry you serve before anything else, because a mid-market software book and a hospital supply book need different people. Then give the current portfolio as a count and an annual value. Close with the kind of book you want next: more strategic accounts, a new vertical, or a team lead role. Leave out phrases such as *relationship-driven*; the renewal figures under Experience say it better.

  2. Experience: portfolio first, then what moved

Open each role with the portfolio slot, even for older jobs where it was smaller; growth from one role to the next is part of your story. Follow with retention, then expansion, then one save. If your company tracked net revenue retention, use that term; if it only tracked logo churn, say so plainly rather than converting. Describe accounts by industry and size, never by name. When a renewal was a team effort with a sales engineer or support lead, name your part: the plan, the negotiation, or the executive meeting.

  3. Skills: commercial ability and customer systems

Split skills into what you do with customers, the commercial work around contracts, and the software you do it in. Hiring managers for account roles probe negotiation and forecasting in interviews, so list them only if you can walk through a real renewal you priced. Name the customer success platform your company used; teams adopting one look for people who have kept health scores current. Leave out general office software unless the posting names it.

  4. Education: last and short

One line with degree, school and year. Account management has no required degree, and a business, marketing or communications major is common but not expected. If you hold a negotiation course certificate or a vendor credential such as a Salesforce administrator badge, add it on a second line here instead of creating a separate section for a single entry.

Questions about the account manager resume template

Why is there no separate section for key accounts?

A standalone list of clients invites confidentiality problems and repeats what your bullets already say. The portfolio slot at the top of each role carries the same facts, counted and described by industry, without naming anyone. If a posting asks for customer references, offer them at the interview stage.

What if my company never shared retention figures with me?

Work out what you can verify: contracts renewed out of contracts up for renewal, or revenue at the start and end of the year for your book. Write the measure you used, such as *renewed 41 of 44 contracts*, rather than borrowing a term like net revenue retention that implies a calculation you did not see.

Can I use this template if I also carry a new-business quota?

Yes. Add one bullet in the current role for new logos or quota attainment and keep it below the retention lines so the page still reads as account management. If new business is most of the job, the account executive resume template puts attainment first.

How do I move into account management from a support job?

Use the previous-role slot for the support job and choose bullets about accounts rather than tickets: customers you looked after repeatedly, renewals you helped keep, and upgrades you flagged to sales. A hiring manager wants evidence that you think about a customer's next year, not only today's request.

Is it free?

Yes. The Word files and the Google Docs copy are free to download, edit and use for any application. There is no signup and no email.

Will it read correctly in an applicant tracking system?

The layout is one column with standard headings and real text: no tables, text boxes, icons, columns or images, which are the parts parsers most often misread. Keep it that way as you edit.

Word or Google Docs?

Use whichever you edit in. The Word file opens in Microsoft Word, Pages and LibreOffice. The Google Docs link asks you to make a copy in your own Drive; the original stays blank for the next person. Send the posting the format it asks for, usually .docx or PDF.

Every application goes out fitting the job.
