A vice president of sales hiring a first-line or regional manager wants evidence of two things: that your team hit its number for more than one year, and that you made the people on it better. Your personal closing record matters less now than it did when you carried a bag. This template is built around the team. The heading of each management role asks for headcount and territory, the first bullet asks for team attainment by year, and the rest ask about hiring, coaching, ramp time and the process you put in place.

The sections run summary, experience, skills, then a short Sales Methods and Training block, then education. Experience comes straight after the summary because a manager is hired on their record, not a skill list. The methods block names the selling framework you coach and any training you delivered, since a leader replacing a manager wants to know what the team will be taught.

If your last management job was a player-coach role, keep a line for your own number but put it after the team result. See every slot completed in the sales manager resume example.

How to fill in each section

  1. Summary: team, target, years

Open with how many reps you lead and what they sell, then give the team's result over at least two years in one clause. The third sentence names the management strength a rep who worked for you would mention, such as fast ramping or honest forecasting. If you are applying for your first management role, say you are moving up from senior rep or team lead and name the people work you have already done.

  2. Experience: the team's number, then the people

Lead every management role with team attainment year by year against the target, not your best quarter. Then show the people: how many you hired, how fast they ramped, who you promoted, and who you moved out when it was right. Process bullets should say what changed in the figures, such as forecast accuracy or win rate, rather than only naming a new meeting. Give the team size in the heading so every number below it has context.

  3. Skills: managing, not selling

A manager's skills list should read differently from a rep's. Put hiring, coaching, territory design and forecasting first, then the reporting tools you run the team from. Closing skills belong only if you still carry a personal number. Leaders hiring managers often ask about compensation plans, so list plan input only if you helped design one.

  4. Sales Methods and Training: what your team learns from you

Name the methodology you coach and whether you are certified in it. Add training you built or delivered, with the audience size. Keep this to two or three lines; it tells a hiring leader whether your coaching matches their system or would bring a new one, and that is a question they will raise in the first interview.

  5. Education: one line

Degree, school, year. Sales management rarely requires a specific degree. A leadership program run by your employer can go here as a second line if entry was selective.

Questions about the sales manager resume template

How do I show a team result when the territory changed mid-year?

Give the attainment for the period you led the team and say what changed, such as accounts reassigned or headcount added. Hiring leaders know territories move; they want to see that you can explain a number accurately.

Should I list my own sales results as a manager?

Only if you still carry a quota, and then after the team line. A manager whose bullets are mostly personal wins reads like a top rep with a new title.

What if I have led a team but never held the manager title?

Use the title you held and add the scope in the heading, such as *team lead for six reps*. Bullets on onboarding, coaching and forecasting carry the same weight when they come with results.

Is a two-page resume acceptable for a sales manager?

Yes for someone with several management roles or a long career in one industry. Keep the first page for the current and previous management jobs and reduce early sales roles to brief lines on the second.

Is it free?

Yes. The Word files and the Google Docs copy are free to download, edit and use for any application. There is no signup and no email.

Will it read correctly in an applicant tracking system?

The layout is one column with standard headings and real text: no tables, text boxes, icons, columns or images, which are the parts parsers most often misread. Keep it that way as you edit.

Word or Google Docs?

Use whichever you edit in. The Word file opens in Microsoft Word, Pages and LibreOffice. The Google Docs link asks you to make a copy in your own Drive; the original stays blank for the next person. Send the posting the format it asks for, usually .docx or PDF.
