A practice manager reading a medical assistant resume is checking two lists against the job: the credential the clinic requires, and the specific procedures and office tasks you can do without supervision. So this template puts a short Certifications section directly after the summary, with your CMA, RMA, CCMA or NCMA and its year, and your life support card with its expiry. Skills come straight after, split into a clinical line and a front office line, because most clinics are hiring for one side more than the other and the manager wants to find that side first.

Experience then shows pace and setting. Each job heading names the specialty, and the bullets ask for patients roomed per day, providers supported, procedures performed and a result the practice tracks, such as fewer claim denials or more completed recalls. Education is the training program, last.

Overwrite every bracket with your own facts and delete what you have not done. Whether you are certified or still in training, the layout holds. The medical assistant resume example shows it completed for a family medicine clinic, and nurses can use the registered nurse resume template.

How to fill in each section

  1. Summary: specialty, volume, two strengths

One sentence of facts and one of character. Name the specialty and your daily volume first, since rooming a dozen patients in a dermatology office and thirty in urgent care are different jobs. Then pair one clinical and one office strength, so the practice manager sees you can cover both sides when someone calls out. Mention a language here only if you use it with patients; it then appears again in skills.

  2. Certifications: right under the summary

Many employers require national certification, and some states limit injections and other tasks to certified or trained assistants. Put the credential with its certifying body and year directly under the summary so it is seen before skills. Add your recertification date to show the credential is current. A phlebotomy or limited radiology credential goes here too when the posting asks for it. If you are booked to sit the exam, list the exam and its date.

  3. Skills: clinical and front office apart

Two lines, so a manager hiring for the back office finds the procedures and one hiring for the front desk finds scheduling and insurance. Order each line by the posting. Name the EHR you have used, because learning a new system is the slowest part of onboarding an assistant. Prior authorizations and referrals deserve a mention for specialty practices, where they fill much of the day.

  4. Experience: rooming, procedures, results

Head each job with the specialty, then lead with patients per day and providers supported. Procedure bullets should name what you perform and show care: no labeling errors in audits, compliant vaccine logs, accurate controlled-substance counts. Then add one result the practice watches, such as recall completion or registration errors, with your part in it. If you worked under standing orders or phone protocols, say so; it tells a manager what you can handle without a provider in the room.

  5. Education: the program, briefly

Name the accredited program and year. In your first year, the externship can go in experience with its hours and setting; after a year or two of paid work, keep only the program line here. Assistants who trained on the job without a program can reduce this section to a high school diploma and let the certification block carry the weight.

Questions about the medical assistant resume template

Why are skills above experience in this medical assistant template?

Clinics hire for specific procedures and office tasks. A manager who needs someone to draw blood or handle prior authorizations reads skills first to see whether you can, then reads experience to see where you did it. If your experience is long and in the posting's specialty, you can move it above skills.

I trained on the job and have no certification. Should I still apply?

In many states, yes, but say what you can do and plan to certify. Name the procedures you were trained on, and add the exam you intend to take with a month. Some employers pay for certification for assistants already on staff, so it is worth asking in the interview.

How do I move from front desk or scribe work into a medical assistant role?

Lead with the parts of your current job that overlap: scheduling, insurance verification, EHR documentation, patient check-in. Then show clinical training from a program or externship. The two skills lines let a manager see both sides even if your recent title was administrative.

Should I list every specialty I have worked in?

Show each employer with its specialty in the job heading, and name the ones closest to the posting in your summary. Specialty experience shortens orientation, so a cardiology clinic will notice EKG and Holter work, and a pediatric office will notice immunization schedules.

Is it free?

Yes. The Word files and the Google Docs copy are free to download, edit and use for any application. There is no signup and no email.

Will it read correctly in an applicant tracking system?

The layout is one column with standard headings and real text: no tables, text boxes, icons, columns or images, which are the parts parsers most often misread. Keep it that way as you edit.

Word or Google Docs?

Use whichever you edit in. The Word file opens in Microsoft Word, Pages and LibreOffice. The Google Docs link asks you to make a copy in your own Drive; the original stays blank for the next person. Send the posting the format it asks for, usually .docx or PDF.
