Project manager postings tend to filter on two things before anyone reads closely: a certification such as the PMP or PRINCE2, and the methodology the team runs. This template puts a short certifications block right under the summary so that filter is passed in the first glance. Experience follows, because once the reader knows you qualify, the only thing that matters is the projects themselves.

Each experience slot is shaped like a project charter in one line: scope, constraint, what you did, how it ended. Write over every bracket with a real figure, and remove a slot when you would be guessing. Skills come after experience on purpose. For a project manager, a list of tools proves little until the bullets above it show what you delivered with them.

The layout works for IT, construction, marketing and operations projects alike; what changes is the vocabulary you put in the brackets. The guide covers how to adapt it, and the project manager resume example shows one candidate's version with every slot filled.

How to fill in each section

  1. Summary: project type, size, method

Three facts place a project manager's level instantly: the kind of project, the largest budget or team you have carried, and the method you run. Put them in the first sentence using the posting's words; an IT posting says rollout and migration, a construction one says schedule and subcontractors. Then name the single project you most want to be asked about. A recovery story is often stronger than a smooth delivery.

  2. Certifications: credential, body, year

Write the full name once with the abbreviation, *Project Management Professional (PMP)*, so both forms match a search. Add the issuing body and the year. Agile credentials such as the CSM or PMI-ACP help for software teams; PRINCE2 is more common with employers that follow UK or European practice. If you are studying, give the planned exam month. Leave out short courses with no exam; they look like padding beside a real credential.

  3. Experience: scope, constraint, finish

Give one bullet per significant project rather than one per duty. Open with scope in numbers (budget, people, sites, duration), then name the decision or method that made the difference, then the finish against the baseline. At least one bullet per role should cover something that went wrong and how you brought it back. Count only budgets you actually tracked or controlled, and say which; interviewers ask.

  4. Skills: three short lines after the proof

Separate what you do (scheduling, risk, change control) from how you run it (Scrum, critical path, earned value) and what you run it in. Match tool names to the posting; a construction firm on Procore and a software team on Jira are reading for different words. Keep each line short, because a long list of methodologies suggests you have read about them rather than used them.

  5. Education: last and brief

Degree, field, school, year. Project management is open to people from many fields, so the field matters only when it matches the industry, such as engineering for construction projects or computer science for technical delivery. A master's in project management can go here, but your certification block already carries most of that signal. Drop graduation years if they make your career look longer than the posting expects.

Questions about the project manager resume template

Why is the certifications block above experience in this template?

Because many project manager postings list the PMP or an equivalent as required or preferred, and a reader checks it before anything else. Putting it high answers that question at once. Move it below experience if you have no certification yet and your projects are strong.

How do I fill the template if most of my projects were small?

Group them. A line such as delivered fourteen projects a year between $20K and $150K shows volume and range, which agencies and operations teams value. Then give one bullet to the largest or hardest of them in detail.

Should a project coordinator use this template or wait?

Use it, with the coordinator role as your main entry and bullets about the parts you owned: a schedule, a vendor, a budget line, a workstream. Put the CAPM or a planned PMP date in the certifications block. The project coordinator resume example shows the step before this one.

When does a project manager need the program manager template instead?

When you run several related projects toward a single business outcome and report on the whole to executives. That resume emphasizes dependencies and governance across teams; the program manager resume template is laid out for it.

Is it free?

Yes. The Word files and the Google Docs copy are free to download, edit and use for any application. There is no signup and no email.

Will it read correctly in an applicant tracking system?

The layout is one column with standard headings and real text: no tables, text boxes, icons, columns or images, which are the parts parsers most often misread. Keep it that way as you edit.

Word or Google Docs?

Use whichever you edit in. The Word file opens in Microsoft Word, Pages and LibreOffice. The Google Docs link asks you to make a copy in your own Drive; the original stays blank for the next person. Send the posting the format it asks for, usually .docx or PDF.

Every application goes out fitting the job.
